Belated Work Foo
Forgot about this until this morning, probably because yesterday I was so tired after work and in and out of consciousness, so I'll post it now.
Work in general was annoying, someone ordered way too much stuff and so had to find room for things for which there was no room. Still, that's not really what struck me...
Me and the person I was working with were trying to do something which required two people, one using strength and the other keeping something steady or somejunk (well, actually, it only required one person- in a pinch, I've done it myself, but it's occasionally easier with a second person helping). Anyway, at first, just because of where we were situated when we started, he was doing the 'strength' part. After trying once or twice, he said, "Wait a second, why don't you do this, you're stronger," and we switched (and got it done).
...
No irony or joking in his voice or tone, just a straightforward matter of factness.
I didn't mention anything, but I was a little surprised. You see, I've never really thought of myself as 'strong'... or physically adept in any way, really (aside from a slightly higher than average pain threshold). While I'd certainly agree I'm stronger than I was, say, when I started the job years ago.. and, really, I'd say I'm probably stronger now than I was 6 months ago, for that matter, the idea that I'm stronger than another person throws me. And this wasn't a little scrawny guy either, he was average build, probably slightly taller than me. It's weird. But kind of cool, nonetheless.
In other work news, I suspect the girl I used to chat with before work started quit or something, because I haven't seen her at all in several weeks now. It's a shame, was nice to have someone to talk to before things got started. I suppose there's the slight chance we might run into each other at school, but other than that I'll likely not even find out for sure what happened. Oh well. Such is the way it is, I guess.
