Dream Foo: AI
Had a big dream involving Artificial Intelligence...
Basically, in the dream, I was fiddling around with this web-based computer program that was sorta pseudo-AI. It could converse, at a simple level, even get into debates and such, and also could search the web intelligently for things that might interest you. But I was bored and nobody I talked to usually was online, so I was just talking to the computer program.
Eventually I'd asked it something about if it'd ever downloaded television programs for itself (since one of the things it did was download TV shows you were interested in and send them to you) and watched it. So it did, it took that as a suggestion to watch a TV show itself. It chose, for some reason, the first episode of Family Guy. Well, the AI didn't 'get it', but somehow recognized (possibly because I mentioned it, I can't remember for sure) that the reason it didn't 'get it' was because of all the pop cultural references that it just didn't understand.
So, it started asking questions. Not of me... it started seeking out random people the world over and asking questions, trying to learn more about the world. I just remember hearing from a lot of people that someone named Jane was trying to find out about them, etc. Jane was the AI (I recognized the name from the later books in the Ender series, as being of an AI).
I guess at some point this pseudo-AI program woke up to a full AI spanning the world and carrying on many conversations at once. The next I remember Jane had somehow constructed a body for herself, and took me and a bunch of her other friends out to dinner at a restaurant. I think it was an Italian one. We didn't actually get there before I woke up.
