Quoting Wizard Magazine which has an article on the subject (with quotes from the man himself), it is apparently confirmed.
Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy, Angel, and Firefly, will be writing Astonishing X-Men, starting in May, for at least a 12 issue arc, with artist John Cassady.
