More Fandom Bits

Oh, and if Fandom Bits, the cereal, becomes a reality, it (the regular cereal part, that is, not the slashmallows) needs to be made out of the same stuff as Cap'n Crunch cereal. Because just like fandom, it's like crack and wrecks your insides!

First, news of a MAX Pete Wisdom Marvel series. I might actually pick it up and I've never had any particular attachment to Pete Wisdom.

Speaking of comics, at the SDCC Mondo Marvel panel they released some preliminary sketches off Ellis' newuniversal.

Sadly none of my favorite characters of the original NU are there, at least not yet.

Thoughts on Stargate Sg1 and Atlantis, Episode 2 of the newest season (and some icons made or inspired off them)...

SG1 was another of their solid but not terribly memorable episodes, so I don't really know what to say. I saw the Woosley thing being a 'test' a mile away - I was kinda hoping for a little reversal, with Vala passing the test, acting surprised and offended that they'd try that, and then later off-handedly saying to Daniel, "Oh, I knew it was a test all along. They were _so_ transparent." (in counterpoint to her obviousness in trying to give the 'right' answers to the psyche test).

Atlantis... kind of annoys me. Particularly the whole 'Wraith becoming human' subplot has annoyed me since they started it, because it tends to require the characters to be Morally Iffy (to put it generously) AND remarkably stupid. One or the other, I can handle. Both at once bugs the hell out of me. I mean, really, they _know_ that Wraith can communicate telepathically. So naturally, they put all the humanized wraith on an isolated planet with only a handful of guards to check to see if any of them are reverting to normal. Why not ship them to Earth? I know the politics of the whole thing is iffy, and if they ever get out of control it's dangerous, but you could at least contain them easily and have a medical staff monitoring their condition, and hopefully their telepathic link wouldn't reach as far as across the galaxy. They could be watched full time (unobtrusively), taught new skills, etc.

And morally, I can see the weapon being used in war, but when Michael refused to take the treatment, that should have been the end of it. They could kill him if they thought that was better, but you don't force him into it when he's already a prisoner, especially when he's said he'd prefer death to the treatment. Not to mention the moral issues and stupidity involved in performing the experiment in the first place (the stupidity lies in performing it on Atlantis, rather than starting and stopping the experiment on an isolated beta site so even if Michael remembered or got away, he couldn't compromise the city. The morality lies in kidnapping someone, making him into a guinea pig, and then trying to build a new identity around him. Even if he is the enemy).

So I have to call this week's SG1 'solid but not memorable, and this week's Atlantis 'weak'.

Anyway, icons:

And, even though jokes like this have been run into the ground, I work at a donut store, and today I had a thought. Make a new donut - plane, with gummy worms on top. And you call it...

wait for it...

SNAKES ON A PLAIN DONUT!

Yeah, I know, awful, but so awful I had to share.

Edit: Oh, and apparently something I said that started a sub thread in a scans_daily thread has been metaquoted. I think that's my first time showing up on a place like that.

Wow...I think that's the first time I've ever disagreed with something you've said about a show we both watch. I for one LOVE the human-Wraith subplot BECAUSE it messes with moral and ethical lines because it's what I think they were trying to show with the whole Weir "investigation" thing..which is that out there in another galaxy, you're forced to make hard choices about things and sometimes those choices are wrong morally or ethically but have to be done...and although I don't agree with them using the antidote against their wishes (especially with Michael who I think is an awesomely complicated villian) I can see why they'd think that was their only option. Does that make sense? :P Yes, they're being stupid and creating more problems for themselves, but they've done that before...they're always making mistakes...and I think it's great. :) I love seeing how they deal with those mistakes...I find the Atlantis "crew" (or whatever lol) the type of characters that I can't help but root for...I WANT them to succeed. :) Just my thoughts though and of course I love reading your thoughts even if I feel differently. :) Btw, I got your email at my Brock account (still not at my hotmail account...lol Clearly it hates you :P) and I'll write back soon. (No really :P)

See, like I said, it's the combination of both. I could deal with exploring the moral ambiguity of the whole thing if they didn't go about the whole thing so stupidly (and if any of the characters seemed to recognize it - Carson is at least concerned about the morality of _killing_ the former Wraith but even he doesn't seem to have much problems with forcing them to become human and losing their memories in the first place... I was hoping at least he'd refuse to inject Michael, even under orders, because of his doctor's oath, and forcing Elizabeth to order someone else to do it).

And I can tolerate stupidity in the service of a plot if at least the characters were behaving in ways that I could respect. But basically whenever the Wraith-human subplot's going on the entire cast is unlikeable, and what's more they're all unlikeable idiots. So I don't like it.

Oh...and I don't get your joke. :( I keep reading it and...nothing. So...HUH?? ;)

There's a movie coming out called 'Snakes on a Plane'. Before it ever even finished filming the title alone has spread across the net, and there are numerous take off jokes (if you've ever seen an icon with snakes hanging off Jayne from firefly with 'Snakes on a Jayne!', that's where it's from). So Snakes on a Plain Donut would be a marketting takeoff of that. ;)

OMG seriously capt'n crunch is evil. I loved it as a kid (and I really was a bigger fan of "healthy" cereal like raisin bran and grapenuts) but damn was it good. However, when you eat The Crunch it shreds the inside of the mouth. Like your mouth feels like you have taken a cheese grater and rubbed it on the roof of your mouth. but damn is it worth it. I may have to go buy some, it has probably been 15-20 years since I have had any.

See, that's why Cap'n crunch needs to be the base for fandom bits, because like cap'n crunch, fandom shreds up your insides but it's worth it!

I don't have the Cap'n too often but I did have it just a few days ago because it was on sale.

I really only buy kashi and grapnuts, on occassion I will buy the healthstart stuff. Oh - and I buy honey nut cherrios alot cause they are really good for you with tons of vitamins and minerals. I know, I am such a grown up now...but those have really always been my favs. of course, really I am more likely to have yogurt or fruit in the mornings. Seriously, I really have gotten old.

I've never ended up on metaquotes! Jealousy!
