New Comic Day + Other Foo

This week I just got one book:

Runaways #19 (My Pick of the Week! Good to see mourning, and some interesting stuff set up for the future)

Full reviews as usual at my comic reviews site for anyone interested.

Also picked up at a bookstore a SF book, "Appleseed" by John Clute.
I've never heard of it, but it was in the 'Last chance' bin for only $2 (for one of those oversized paperbacks, and new), so I couldn't resist.

Walk was okay.
Same route as before, but this time I noticed something I didn't before. There's a burger place, "Wimpy's Diner" I think. Except out in front of it, there's a life-sized (at least, I'm assuming, I don't know what height she's supposed to be) statue of Betty Boop as a waitress. Now, Betty Boop's innocuous enough as a two dimensional cartoon character, but make her life sized and she's bloody creepy.

Although now that I think of it, I'm surprised nobody's tried to do a Betty Boop live action movie. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of really skinny actresses who have heads too big for their body in Hollywood, you'd think it'd be a natural. Anyway, that's about it for interesting things seen on the walk. Did some Walter Mittying and some other thinking about random things such that I have forgotten the specifics. And Runaways of course.

Actually I walked home too, which means I'm a bit more tired than usual (but I have saved $2 on busfare!). Basically I just missed a bus so instead of waiting I decided to walk, and by the time the next bus came I was only like 10 minutes from home so I skipped it. Of course, unfortunately about that time I realized I had to go to the bathroom bad, so it was an uncomfortable few minutes of walking home, but I made it.

For lunch, I had my first ever Schawarma. And now I can confidently state, that the gyro is far superior to the Schawarma (I stated it before trying it, but that's only natural). The schawarma isn't bad, granted. But it's no gyro. It's not even as good as the mexican gyro, the taco. It's not even as good as many non-gyro-ish foods like KFC.

I only tried the 'meat schawarma' so it's possible the chicken one is superior, but I prefer meat to chicken (if they don't consider their chickens meat, neither will I).

Why did I eat a schawarma instead of eating something at home? Well, that's because for lunch I'd arranged to meet someone from high school. So, yeah, we met probably for the first time in 9 years (although we'd exchanged the occasional e-mail in the first few years after high school, we'd lost touch until after my nostalgic post about googling high school people inspired him to IM me. Apparently he'd been reading my journal for a couple weeks. Which is a bit creepy. But not in a terribly bad way, just in a 'World's Colliding, You're Killing Independent George!' way. And hearing someone in person discuss things I wrote on my LJ? "Now something about that is downright unsettling." But it's not so bad.

Basically we shared a meal, caught up a little with what the other's been doing, and who each of us have run into from high school since leaving it. Pleasant enough, and we might do it again sometime since he works near the area that I'm walking by on Wednesdays anyway.
