New Comic Day

This week I got just one book.

Astonishing X-Men #22 (bit disappointing, really)

Full reviews up as usual at my comic reviews site for anyone interested.

In books, I picked up Judas Unchained by Peter F. Hamilton, and in not-books, I also broke down and got Serenity: The Collector's Edition. It was the only one I saw at the store. Which I suspect either means it sold really well, or it wasn't ordered very much. Considering I found it in the regular 'Movies starting with S' section, rather than any display for it (and it came out this week, didn't it), I'm expecting the latter. Oh well, hopefully it'll pick up.

I didn't do the full walk, just most of it. After the comic store, it looked like it was starting to rain, and I was running late from work (which was okay, but late), and since I had a DVD and a new comic I figured I'd not chance it (even though my bag is somewhat waterproof), save myself an hour of walking, and take transit. My pre-transit walk was fairly productive though with ideas.

Oh, and didn't really have lunch per se, but had chicken fingers and fries when I got home.

I got the Collector's Edition and haven't watched Disc 2 yet, but the second commentary track is quite good. I still wish they'd incorporated the cut footage back into the movie, which I somehow assumed they'd done (hence me buying it) but still: it's on the disc at least. The features listed look good though and I intend to check them out when I'm not drowning in work.

Crap, there's a collector's edition! Why must you make me spend more money on DVDs Joss?

Yeah, it just came out. Mostly the movie is the same, but it contains a new commentary track (with Joss, Nathan, Summer, and a couple others from the cast I can't recall because it's not within reach), a few new special features including the 'River Tam Sessions' things that were on the web before the movie.

I have to take a look for that Serenity collector's edition! How are the extras and bonuses?

I haven't seen all of them, but the ones I have, well, they're okay. There's nothing really new on the content side of the show itself that I could detect - no new deleted scenes or anything (aside from the River Tam Sessions, I guess, the things that were on the net before the movie). I haven't watched any of the new documentaries (some of which were apparently on the european release of the original DVD).

I bought it mainly for the new commentary track, with Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion (Mal), Adam Baldwin (Jayne), Ron Glass (Book), and Summer Glau (River), cause I'm a bit of a commentary whore. And it was fun, but a little disappointing, too. Ron Glass and Summer Glau didn't speak a whole lot (Ron presumably because he didn't have much to do in the movie, and Summer seemed a little shy), and it didn't have quite the level of banter that the TV series DVD commentaries had, but there were some funny moments.

So guess you'll have to judge on your own if it's worth it.

Thanks! It'd be nice to support it financially because apparently this is testing the waters for a second movie. But I rarely listen to commentaries (though I know I should) and if there are no (new) deleted scenes, I'm not sure it's worth it for me to rush out and buy. It sure looks pretty though. I might wait for a sale.
