So, today I did something that I retroactively realized was potentially very stupid, but didn't do me any actual harm anyway.

Work was all but done, and me and the person who works with me were just breaking up some empty boxes and throwing them in the trash. Now, what I tend to do is hold the smaller boxes up to the wall (in this case, a metal shed that was added on to serve as a freezer storage for the place), then aim one punch at the part of the box that's still taped. If I hit it right, it comes apart cleanly and quickly (the larger boxes I do the same thing except put it on the ground and punch downwards).

Anyway, guy I was working with said something about how if I screwed up, punched a little too hard, and actually hit the wall through the box, I was going to have bloody knuckles. Now, I had actually punched a little too hard on previous occasions, and hit the wall, but wasn't really hurt, so I said, "Nah, look," and then, with no box in the way, just straight out punched the wall with more force than I'd use on a box. It didn't hurt at all, and the wall dented a bit, and it was only later that I realized that if I _had_ hurt myself, say broke my hand or something, I'd feel and look pretty damn stupid. (Incidentally, he later tried punching through a box to the wall, hit the wall... and hurt himself... not seriously mind you, just he said "damn, that hurt." He too left a bit of a dent in the wall).

I dunno why I did it, really. Maybe I just like the idea of being seen as a strong guy there.

Heh.

What's been annoying me is that I know I'm stronger than Chris. I'm just... strong for a female. Yet everytime around the house something needs to be moved around, they ask him. And I see him struggling, but...

Oi. Sometimes I've stepped in anyway. ;)

Well, I suppose many people are caught up in traditional male/female roles, even to the instinctive level... I'm sure many people (and I don't know if this is the case where you are, am just speaking in general) don't even think twice about asking a guy to do something like move something around the house when there's a stronger girl, they just don't make the connection.

Personally, although I'd like to move something myself if I could just on general principle, it wouldn't especially bother me if a woman who was stronger than me helped me out, at least no more than it would a male helping me.
