But how's the porridge on Gliese 587 g?
Sep. 30th, 2010 01:38 pmAstronomers have discovered a reasonably earthlike planet in the Goldilocks zone of another star.. And it's a close star, relatively, only about 20 light years away, which suggests that it may be fairly common. The planet's about 3 times the size of Earth, and probably tidally locked, with one side probably around 72 degrees C, the other about 4, and 'shirt sleeve weather' at the terminator, where it's eternally morning/evening.
This suggests that the inhabitants will be super-strong beetle-men who do not sleep. Okay, that's more of just a guess.
Anyway, it's pretty cool news to me.
By the way, in the event that there's any secret government organization covertly planning a manned colonziation mission using cryogenics or near-lightspeed travel and need some warm bodies, I hereby volunteer for the expedition. I may not have much in the way of skills but I've read and watched a lot of SF and I'm sure you'll need some manual labour.
I'm bored of this planet, and need a change of scenery, and I doubt too many here would miss me anyway.
