So, in honor of Canada Day, I decided to watch the final two episodes of Veronica Mars. I'm not sure what Veronica Mars has to do with Canada, but I'm sure if I thought hard enough I could come up with something. Unfortunately, I'm not doing any hard thinking on account of it being Canada Day. I'm not sure about the connection there, either, but I'm sure if I thought hard enough I'd have an answer, but see above.

Anyway, my big spoilery thoughts on it below the cut. If you haven't seen it don't click here because it really will ruin some of the enjoyment for you.

Okay, I sort of had the big 'Who Blew Up the Bus' mystery spoiled for me even before I saw the first issue. Someone made a joke about 'OH MY GOD, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? PETER PARKER BLEW UP THE BUS!'. It was in reference to a comic (an anti-child abuse promotional comic put out in the 80s) where Spider-Man sort of obliquely tells a kid that when he was young he was sexually molested by an older male classmate. I found the comment without really knowing why, but I later saw someone mention it in context with Veronica Mars, so, boom, I figured I'd just been spoiled on the big mystery. I didn't quite know if it was a red herring or the actual solution, but in any event it made me suspect Woody right away of being a child molester. Still, I was a little on the fence about whether it was Woody (making the joke a little inaccurate, but jokes sometimes are) or someone he molested, and I wasn't quite sure about who until towards the end. I did figure it out before Veronica. Still, it was very cool to see it all play out.

I'm really surprised they never played the 'OMG! LOGAN BLEW UP THE BUS!' card as a red herring. I remember when I saw the first episode, before they all got on the bus Logan made a cryptic 'I'm going to miss you, Veronica...' comment to her and then left. Now, I never thought he actually _did_, but I thought for sure they were going to have Veronica stumble on some evidence and become temporarily convinced that it was Logan, based on that comment.

Of course, even with the big mysteries sorta spoiled, it was still an awesome show for all the little mysteries and twists, and of course all the snarky comments.

I think I have decided Mac is my favorite non-Veronica character. It used to be Wallace but he did a bit of a scummy move (I always lose respect for characters when they cheat, so when he kissed Jackie while he was dating the other girl and then, when it crashed and burned, made an excuse to keep his existing relationship, meh. Even if he did the right thing belatedly, it still hurt him in my eyes).

For a while Mac and Beaver was my VM OTP, but I guess that couldn't work out seeing as how he was all evil. Speaking of Mac, it is a crime against all that is holy that Dick and Beaver were in the title credits and Mac wasn't. I mean, okay, I can see Beaver (get your mind out of the gutter), but Dick? Bah. Mac should have been there. I've heard that they're trying to get her as a regular for next year, which would be awesome (and it's possible her role in another series, Big Love, prevented her from taking regular status in VM and so she wouldn't get title credit).

Of course, as pointless a characters as he was, there is one thing about Dick... I've decided in my private little 'Runaways, the television series' (or live action movie) dream world, he'd be a pretty good Chase. It's actually scary how much of my dream Runaways cast I can populate with characters who've played major roles on Veronica Mars. I've long had Percy Daggs III as Alex, and Tina Majorino would make a pretty awesome Gert if they wanted to Hollywood-Proportionize her (in Hollywood super-skinny people play average girl, and so average girls play the ones who are 'slightly overweight and generally unattractive'). Veronica herself would be a good Karolina if she wasn't way too short. If they added a Gothy asian girl and somebody's preteen kid sister (Mac's?) next year I'd have the whole team. Well, except Old Lace, but the chances of VM adding a velociraptor (well, Deinonychus, technically) with a nose ring to its cast next year are pretty slim (but if they did? OMG AWESOME). Yes, I did just go way off topic from Veronica Mars and into another of my geeky obsessions, but I tend to be an off-topic person. And they're still connected by the fact that Joss Whedon loves both.

Back to VM. I like how VM manages to wrap up its big stuff by the end of the year but still leaves enough dangling that keep you excited for the next season. Sort of a nice mix of Buffy-style and traditional summer cliffhangers. Though I was kinda half expecting after Logan took the gun away from Veronica that he'd use it to shoot Cassidy. But I guess it's just as well he didn't. I'm not typically a 'Logan/Veronica' shipper, but I enjoy his character and his interactions with her so I'm not totally opposed to it either. He's at least a little more interesting than Duncan. Weevil better get cleared of murder though! Or at least have not enough evidence.

I'm figuring next year will find some reason for Veronica have to go to Hearst (?) and so still hang out with Wallace and a lot of others from Neptune High who couldn't afford to go away to college and they'll probably deal with the dangling head-shaving-rapist subplot, and maybe look into who killed Aaron Echols, if only to clear Logan (since he had motive).

Random topic swerve: The second last episode with Lucky shooting at people reminded me of a silly half-baked plot idea, of the 'if I ever wrote fanfic maybe I'd write it (but I don't)' variety: Wallace is in class when someone bursts in and takes his class hostage. Wallace subtly uses a cell phone to call Veronica and lets her hear what's going on so she can investigate the claims of whatever the hostage guy is doing and help the police resolve the situation.

But yeah, anyway, next year? Definitely downloading episodes as they air. No more waiting super long periods for me.

A little furthur than midway through VM I learned how to take screencaps from stuff I download, so only made a few icons from the show, but here they are anyway:

Edit: I figured out the connection between Veronica Mars and Canada Day. Enrico Colantoni, who plays Veronica's dad, is Canadian. See, told ya!

Yay for Canada Day and VM! A post with two awesome subjects!

Mac is one of my favourite characters too! She's so awesome. I loved her from season one's purity test episode. I am hoping that she'll be a fulltime cast memeber next season.

And the whole Weevil thing...man that boy needs to be cleared. He's also a favourite of mine! The look that Veronica gives him as he's being hauled away at graduation killed me. I need more Weevil next year...more!

And in other news your icons are awesome! Now as a question...just for you or sharable? Because I respect the first, but if you're sharing I love the first one and would love to snag it and credit you :) Let me know...awesome!

Oh, no, the icons are totally shareable. I wind up making far more icons than I'll ever be able to use, so with the exception of my default ghostly one (which I use all over the place) or any that actually involve pictures of me, (or of course something I specifically make for another person alone) all the icons I make are gankable at will, so steal away. That one's probably just about to go out of my 'rotating' icon slot anyway in favor of something else. :)

Yeah, I do like Weevil an awful lot too, right from the beginning. So he's gotta get free. Of course VM's one of those shows with so many great characters... almost any character that's been in more than one episode I wound up liking an awful lot (save perhaps Dick), or loving to hate. Though, Weevil doesn't strike me as the college type so I've gotta wonder how he'll fit into plots next year. Maybe clearing him will be one of those longer term plots.

Yay! I'm glad we got you upgraded to downloader status. ;) Waiting a couple of days to download an episode after it airs send me into enough agony; I can't imagine waiting the whole season. :) Glad you enjoyed the season!

That's an interesting and somewhat cryptic way of being spoiled...heh. Actually it's kind of cool that you got part of the story and you were able to see it play out from a slightly different perspective. I'm one of those few people that watched S2 after it had aired, but was completely unspoiled...I haven't re-watched it yet, but I'm curious to see what clues I pick up the next time around now that I know "the big ending". Good to know that you were still entertained despite spoilers.

I really hope Mac becomes a regular next season, too! I like her a lot now, but I think there's so much more that could be explored if she had more screen time, especially now after the whole Beaver fiasco.

Also, I read above that your icons are shareable, which is awesome! I love and am saving the first 2--will credit, of course.
Thanks so much!! :)
