NaNo Day 1, in which the universe expresses its displeasure at my participaton...

So, I started, and got a good clip going. I not only met my word goal for the day, but also my word goal for tomorrow (which I wanted to do because I suspect I'll need the ability to take breaks to refresh myself and get new ideas).

Then, late in the day, I'm relaxing, and suddenly, the power goes out, for the whole block.

And I wonder... did I save? Oh, crap, I don't think I did. I know I should all the times, especially after this sort of thing has happened to me before, losing hours of work just because I didn't save and something happened.

So yes, clearly the universe doesn't want me to do NaNo today.

When the power came back on, I checked, and no, I did not save. However, my word processor is one that auto-saves regularly and so despite the fact that I didn't save it, I was able to recover it and no words were lost.

Screw you, universe, science beats you again!

YAY! For Autosave. It has saved my ass many, many times. Hmm.. I'm too scared to attempt NaNo this year because I just got stuck and procrastinated half way through November :/ Good luck to you though :)

I add to my word count by looking at my word count, writing, and looking at it again. ;).

I'm not actually signed up for NaNo. I'm participating, but not on a site. I have a sort of mental block/moral objection that I can't stand 'signing up' for something if to me there's no good reason, and it could just as easily be done without. NaNo's about writing a 50,000 word novel in a month, and I can do that (or at least, attempt that) whether I'm signed up or not, so I won't.

Wooo! Thank god for auto-save. I wish they had that on just a few more programs. Then again, I've lost work - not from power outages - but programs crashing that I usually save my work obsessively.
