First, happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] fenrishero!!!

Also, new comic day today. This week I got one book, my only comic left:

New Mutants #10 (not bad for a standalone issue)

Full reviews as usual at my comic reviews site for anyone interested.

Also picked up The Year's Best SF 13 at the used bookstore.

And, a meme...
The Meme: Comment and I'll pick one (unless you want more) of your fandoms, post the answers to your journal and so on and so forth.

Heroes
Not so much fannish anymore, but I do sort of watch.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:

I guess HRG, the obvious answer. He looked like a typical badguy the first episode, then over the first season, and especially in Company Man, became awesome. Then in the last couple years he went down the crapper, but then so did almost EVERYBODY, so I can't hold that against him.

The character everyone else loves that I don't: Well, not everybody loves him, I guess, but Sylar. Sure, he was a good villain for the first year, and possibly the second, but he was WAY overused, and I can't understand why anybody wants to keep him around.

The character I love that everyone else hates:

I'm not sure if anybody really applies in this case. Are there characters everybody hates? If so, I don't think I particularly like them.

The character I used to love but don't any longer:
All of them. The plot made every one of them unbearably stupid, unbearably evil, or both, at some point or another in the course of the series.

The character I would shag anytime: Hmmm... this is a tough one, I guess. Cause there really aren't that many female characters on Heroes in good roles, certainly none shaggable. Claire's a possibility (at least, once she became legal)... genuinely a good person through most of the series, and she's cute. Ali Larter I never found particularly attractive except in an abstract sense, and I hated all her characters. Daphne, meh... it'd be over too fast. ;)

So, I guess the best option, if you can remove the brain tumor (and I'm ignoring Season 4's developments because I still think they're awful), would be Charlie. Smart, friendly, and cute as a button.

The character I'd want to be like:
I'm going to interpret this in two ways. In terms of powers, I'd like to be like Peter, I guess, original incarnation, assuming other people with powers exist. Yes, I'm a greedy SOB. If not, Hiro, definitely.

In terms of personality... I don't know. I guess Ando. The guy who isn't particularly useful, but always trying and a good friend. Hiro's a bit too loopy for my tastes (yes, I'd probably try to save people like a superhero if I had the right powerset, but Hiro takes it to delusional levels), and Claire is a bit too obsessed with "a normal life", but would otherwise be a contender.

The character I'd slap:
My god, we'd be here all day and my hand would be sore. So I'm just going to say "the writers, after season 1". What were you thinking?

(In particular, I'm going to say Jeph Loeb).

A pairing that I love: I'm not going to talk about romantic pairings, because there really weren't any good ones. But I really liked the pairing of Matt and the cop chick from the first season... I really wished they'd explored that a lot more. More conventionally, Claire/HRG at least started out very well.

A pairing that I hate:
Here I'll say a romantic pairing: HRG/Noah Bennett and the female ex-partner from the company shoehorned into S4. Hated her with a passion. Oh, and Sylar/ANYBODY.

Favorite character: When I started, it was Hiro, I think, but I wore out... then Noah Bennett, but they kept messing with him. I guess he's still a contender, but overall now I think Claire wins.

My five favorite characters:
Claire
Noah Bennett/HRG
Ando
Matt
Peter (I guess, even though he's a dumbass)

My five least favorite characters:
Sylar
The two(three?) characters Ali Larter played
The female company agent from S4
Jeph Loeb

Which character I am most like:
I'd guess I'm somewhat of a mix of Ando, Hiro, and Peter. Sadly, the "wishy-washy moping about without doing much of anything" is from Peter.

My deep, dark fandom secret:
I still watch the show, but most of the time the reception of my TV is such that I really have to concentrate if I want to read the translated bits and... most of the time I don't bother on the Hiro/Ando stuff.
