newnumber6: Ghostly being (Default)

This week, I got:

Astonishing X-Men #6 (Good)
Guardians #5 (Bleh, but the series is over anyway)
Sleeper Season Two #5 (somewhat disappointing, revolving entirely around characters I'm not terribly interested in)
Uncanny X-Men #452 (Fairly good start to the hellfire club arc, but I worry for where it's going with Claremont).

Also picked up the latest Ultimate Spider-Man TPB, but haven't read it yet.

Full reviews of course at http://www.unreachablestar.net

At the used bookstore, I did finally decide to pick up the translation of the novel 'Battle Royale'. If the story sucks, I'm blaming each and every one of you on my friendslist who've read the book or manga or seen the movie. ;) Haven't really started reading it except for a couple pages while waiting for work to start - although the names are hell to keep straight, at least the text doesn't have the problem I find with a lot of translated stories, that the sentence flow is off and awkward for English.

Oh, and received a care package from Mom, with some small gifts.

Me, I got a t-shirt with a map of Afghanistan on it, some gloves, and a watch.
A swiss watch. A swiss watch that's heavier than my dictionary that has like 8 buttons and a weird wheel thing, as well as some sort of digital readout.

A swiss watch with all that and, on the back, the words 'Transmitter Made In France'. Transmitter.

And, what's more, a watch with no instructions, whatsoever.

Somehow I'm very afraid. On the other hand, there's the chance that by fumbling around I might find a way to make it shoot lasers, or open up a gateway to a parallel world.

Here's hoping.

Does your mother travel a lot and sends gifts from where she is, or is she just really into international-mysteriously-exciting gifts (the watch, not so much the tshirt...cuz really, that's not nearly as exciting as the transmitter - which apparently is very heavy whereas I would have assumed them to be very light...but I digress)?

Oh, and the gyro??

Mom's in the military and is currently working with Nato. She was in Afghanistan for a few months (though is out now, I think she's in Germany again), and yeah, she occasionally sends gifts she finds from abroad.

I have found what apparently is my watch:

Oh, and I skipped the gyro, have been eating a lot of junk lately because I've been working on an assignment for school, and, not that gyros are junk in any sense of the word, I was feeling a bit logy and not in the mood for a big meal so just had some charity subway pizza today.
