newnumber6: Ghostly being (Default)

So, since it was my brother's birthday, we decided to rent a film through the cablebox's Video on Demand. We went with Van Helsing. I was a little worried going into it because I'd heard bad things about it, but it turned out being better than I expected.

It's not great, mind you, and there were incredibly cheesy parts and bad acting, but there were also some really nice moments, and the core of the plotline was pretty good. In fact, I'd think the movie's biggest sin is that it wasn't a lot better, because it easily _could_ have been, by getting rid of the cheesiness and the idiocy of some of the characters and situations. So where it could have been a really good movie, we're left with just a decent popcorn movie with a couple nice moments.

That's exactly how I felt about it. It COULD have been so much better. But it could also have been a helluva a lot worse. There were some incredibly stupid moments, and I personally thought the whole plot was pretty flawed, with all the vampire babies, but if you switched your mind off and went in with no expectations it was enjoyable enough.

I liked Van Helsing's Q forexample. He was quite entertaining whenever he was on screen, and the opening with Frankenstein and Jeckyl and Hyde were both quite fun..

The preview for the John Constantine movie is out. I saw it when I went to see Oceans 12

Not really planning to see it. Maybe when it comes out on video, but just not interested enough to see it in the theatres.
