Enterprise Rant

My usual rant outlet for this has been plugged, so I'm using this here one. Spoilers for the most recent Enterprise ('Babel One').
Trip, Malcolm and two MACOs (marine type combat units) are on a mysterious enemy ship. Something happens and they want to transport them out.
Traditional tension-building story device: "There's some interference, I can only get one of them at a time."
Trip, winning the genius engineer of the year award: "Take the MACOs first!" Because we're on a hostile mysterious enemy ship, and the _last_ thing we want is the people who are trained pretty well exclusively for combat operations to be left behind. I mean, the Enterprise's CHIEF ENGINEER and TACTICAL AND GUNNERY OFFICER are expendable, but we can't afford to lose one of the dozens and dozens of MACOs.
Captain Archer consolidates his stupid Captain of the century award by just going with what his Engineer says - no wonder there's no mention of him in any of the other Trek series. The Federation must have been so embarassed letting this numskull captain their first starship they erased all references to him from history.
Cough. That is all.
