GURPS thoughts

So, will probably sooner or later be running a tabletop game for my brother, his gf, one of his friends (that I've played with before) and others he might be able to find.
Hopefully I'll be able to play at some point too, but most likely will be running the first batch. So, I've been formulating rough ideas.
The game system will probably be GURPS, because I have it and am familiar with it (I've yet to play D20). I wanted to do a game where the characters could transport between different game worlds as part of the game... here's some of the rough thoughts of what I've come up with (some of it's adapted from a fictional universe I'd idly considered writing about, and other cool novels and such that I wanted to throw in there)
The characters will start out as modern day characters, all on some stretch of road or highway, in their individual vehicles. There's a sudden storm and a bolt of lightening, and suddenly there's no road, no city, no landmarks... they're in a field, and it's a different season (summer as opposed to winter, probably). Basically, it'd start out as a 'modern people thrown into a fantasy world'.. they can learn swordplay or try to build up local tech levels, and depending on what roles they take might already have some technological advantages. The fantasy world will be similar to GURPS fantasy, in that the human inhabitants are decendants of Earth people who somehow found themselves in this world, except they all came in the middle ages.
Eventually, when they start making too big 'waves', someone's realized that they come from Earth, modern Earth, and because this world is the only world they know where people from Earth show up with any regularity, it's under a special interdict. They're extracted from the world, taken to another, and are given some of the skinny of the structure of the universe.
There are 7 'layers' of reality. Transcend, High Tech, Low Tech, Neutral Zone, Low Magic, High Magic, Beyond. In the 'High' section of each spectrum, beings dependant on the other side can't survive (so a Robot can't survive in High Magic), but among the Low, it's just more erratic. Transcend and Beyond have never been accessed by humans, but 'Gods' live there.
There are some stable portals between some worlds, and these form networks or 'Webs' which have built up trading societies, etc, but there are infinities of unexplored worlds ine very Layer.
Earth holds a special place... altohugh humans and animals from earth are very common, and people born on EArth sometimes make it off through some means or another (although they're very rare), nobody other than people born to Earth have _been_ to Earth. Legends, prophecies have sprung up, stating that only the Earthborn can open portals to Earth, and that Earth is something of a lynch-pin. If someone can manage to control Earth, they can gain ultimate power. Nobody knows for sure, but Earthborns are very sought after, for good or for ill (demons want them in the hopes that they can possess them and ride within them to Earth)
PCs would be able to swap out characters with some restrictions... replacement characters must either be Earthborns, or from whatever world they're on at the time, or take an 'Unusual Background' advantage, and the party would have to contain at least one Eartborn at all times.
Anyway, that's just the outline of it, haven't gotten too deep into plots.
