Okay, so, as I said, I really enjoyed the movie. I left early in the afternoon because there was a Canadian Browncoats 'Shindig', and I had to pick up my ticket from the generous soul who purchased extra and sold it to me at cost.

Shindig Stuff: Okay, most people on my friends list know, I'm not a terribly social person. So, yes, the Shindig was very awkward. I don't think I'm going to try to go to one of those again. The people were all nice enough, and I talked to a few people a little, but not extensively, mostly I just felt out of place and quiet - which sucks, since it's a group of people I have a lot in common. What hope for me in the world at large? The meal was okay but probably too expensive, another reason not to bother with Shindigs, I get about as much conversation and a much cheaper meal staying home.

I was early even for the Shindig and very briefly saw a person wearing a shirt that said "I can kill you with my brain" (a Firefly quote), and she likewise recognized my shirt (Blue Sun) and said "Hey, Firefly", but that was the extent of our conversation, she was heading somewhere and wasn't actually going to the Shindig itself. Shortly before the Shindig itself another girl came up to me outside the theatre and across the street from the Shindig restaurant and asked if I was here for the preview screening, so we talked a couple minutes and went in together (which was good for me,
I really didn't want to hang in there myself), then when we got in a
couple others showed up and I blended into the woodwork and didn't say
much else. Someone sat at the same table as me as dinner and we talked
a bit, seemed like a nice enough fellow but wasn't a big talker himself.
We did sort of mutually hang together, left at the same time and waited
in line at the theatre together, but only a bit of conversation.
There were a couple other people I exchanged a few sentences with here or
there at the Shindig. All seemed very nice, but for me, awkward.

Inside the theatre, people sang Happy Birthday to Joss Whedon (who wasn't there, but it was his birthday, so at least it wasn't completely strange), the Firefly themesong, and Hero of Canton, The Man They Called Jayne.

Finally, just before the show started, Sean Maher (Doctor Simon Tam) showed up. I was sitting sort of far back and my eyes suck so for the first few seconds before he spoke I actually thought we might have gotten Nathan Fillion, but really Maher was the one I figured we'd get if anyone, and once he spoke I knew it was him. He seemed very nice and maybe a bit flustered himself, then sat back to watch the movie. Joss Whedon's taped message came on after that, and despite reading it online, I was moved.

After the movie, Sean Maher signed autographs and took pictures with people who asked. I didn't have a camera. When it was my turn, I think I said, Thank you for coming, and he said something about thank you, and as he was signing the mini-poster he was signing for everyone, I asked if it wouldn't
be too much trouble for him to sign my DVD boxed set too, and he graciously agreed, and I said thank you, was given my keychain and Serenity brochure by the helper-people, and that's about it, I was on my way home.

I've posted my full spoiler-free review of Serenity here, for anyone interested - in short, I was very pleased with it. I was worried a bit going in they might change too much of the feel of Firefly to make it accessable to mass audiences, but no, it still felt like Firefly. May do a spoiler review in the next few days, but for now that's all you get because I really think people should not be spoiled on this.

(Again, no spoilers in comments please)
