Okay, so the other day I dropped my mouse on the floor. While it still works, an annoying amount of time it basically reclicks when I UNCLICK. This is very annoying because basically it means I often get a double-click when I want a single click, and I have to try like 4 times to drag selected text with the mouse, because as soon as I release it, it reclicks and deselects it again.

I know it's a hardware problem, but I'd think it'd be simple enough to have a tiny program that would make it so you need some tiny amount of time from depressing to re-clicking, or the re-clicking won't be recorded. Yet I can't seem to find one. :P

Edit: See, here's what comes of being a packrat. I actually already had another perfectly working mouse lying around I just didn't know about. Still, this program I was looking for would seem like a fairly obvious program to create.

You should be able to find "Mouse Properties" (or similar) in your Control Panel, and this will allow you to fine-tune such things as double-click speed.

Actually, I don't think that will work, as I believe that setting is for a maximum time-between-clicks, not a minimum, which is what you'd want.

Sorry.

Tried that. All that does (at least in my version of Windows, 98) is control how close together two clicks have to be to count as a double click - but my problem isn't that I want a double click and keep getting single clicks, it's that I want a single click and keep getting double-clicks - my mouse is essentially sometimes making a second click immediately after an initial click.

So since the time between click and second click is (essentially) zero, lengthening or shortening the time between single clicks required to make it a double doesn't do anything.

The good news is you can get a new mouse for as little as $3.00.
