The Apartment Hunt- Conclusion?
Apr. 30th, 2004 03:16 pmSo, saw two places today. The first one was okay, but IMHO a little small and dirty and a fair bit out of the way from where I'm used to, near Vic Park station.
The second place was near Pape station, a little more expensive in rent but cheaper in the long run really because utilities are included. But it was nice, probably around the same size, roughly, but more convenient area. My room would be a bit smaller but most of my books and stuff can go in the 'living room' (which'll become more of a book storage room with my brother's room being a bed/livingroom) and such, with mostly by bed, computer and TV, as well as dresser and such in my room. Maybe a bit more cramped, but I think it'll work.
Anyway, the best part? The landlord (actually the son of the woman who owns the building, but he's handling it for her) was a real nice guy, Macedonian like us, and pretty much offered it to us on the spot so long as we give him 1st/last month tomorrow morning, on our word and a handshake, with no need to check references. Probably it being the last day of the month (for renting beginning in May) helped too.
So, it looks like we've got it.
My advice to anyone apartment hunting, the last day of the month may be a decent time to look if you don't have references, and look in a Greek area! The last part might help you more if you're actually Greek. ;) But look in a Greek area too because there may be greek bakeries and gyro places and such. ;)
Half-hoping rude crazylady just down the street, who still hadn't called us and let us know one way or the other if she'd rent to us, calls us and offers it to us so we can say, no, we have a place, screw you! Well, maybe leave off the 'screw you' part. :)
But yay, place! My first rent-requiring place! It's a milestone! Well, a kilometerstone, anyway.
