New Comic Day
Oct. 27th, 2004 04:03 pmThis week I got:
Birds of Prey #75 (good, probably my pick of the week, but more for lack of anything better than its own merits)
Daredevil #66 (okay, dislike the artistic gimmick and story wasn't interesting)
Doctor Spectrum #3 (Blah, story just dragging on)
Excalibur #6 (Ehh, okay. Nifty ending page though)
Mystique #20 (Quiet Man revealed. Fairly good)
Outsiders #17 (Okay, handles difficult subject matter decently)
Ultimate Elektra #3 (more buying out of completeness than enjoyment)
X-Men #163 (a lot of stupid and man they look to be doing even more bad to Remy, but still some surprisingly fun moments)

Also picked up: The Gunslinger, by Stephen King (book one of the Dark Tower). Book two has been on my shelf for like 10 years, taunting me, and I've never read it because I didn't have book one. Finally I bit the bullet and got a paperback of #1.
Also saw at the used bookstore something interesting: Battle Royale. I had thought it was only a manga, but apparently if I read the back of it right, it was a novel in Japan, presumably adapted for Manga. The book I found was an english translation of the novel. I liked the premise of the manga when I first heard of it, but, well, it was a manga so I wasn't going to buy it. A novel though, might be another story. I don't always like translated novels, but I might be willing to give it a try if it's still there next week.
Wanted opinions though... especially if anyone's read the actual novel, but if you've just read the manga or even seen the movie, that's fine too. Worth it (no spoilers, please)?
Had for lunch: gyro and a slice of charity subway pizza.
