Slightly random post
May. 26th, 2006 07:30 pmWork today sucked. Fridays in general seem to be prone to suckiness lately, because they always seem to be late or not show up at all. So I show up at the expected time and wind up waiting around for several hours. But of course if I ever start showing up late, you know that's the day they're going to pick to be right on time. Bah. Anyway, I did a Sudoku and some reading and all in all was pretty boring. Again.
Over the last few weeks I've made a change that I've attempted before but never quite succeeded. I've cut myself off of naps. Well, at least, mostly. On the three days of the week I work I'll allow myself to nap if I'm tired (as I often am). Otherwise though, I don't nap unless I do a significant amount of writing.
alternaljournal writing doesn't count for that (though I still consider it writing of course, but it doesn't count for nap time). What counts as significant will be slowly going up as time goes on and eventually the nap might be eliminated altogether, as will other measures - I'm trying to gradually go back to my method where I shut off everything but a writing window for at least an hour each day (except work days) and either write or stare at a screen. Although this last week or so I haven't done much writing at all, mostly because of PS Torment eating my brain and being a little busy. But I haven't napped either, despite wanting to, so it's a victory.
Anyway, today, despite being a work day, I actually did some writing (before I left). There was a SF story idea I had been idly tossing around in my head... more of a seed, really, not a story at all. Finally I hit on the way to open it, and ideas have been flowing well on the walk to and from work - I still don't have it in the shape of a full story (in other words, I don't know the ending yet) which doesn't bode well, but it's something.
However, in connection to the story, I have invented a new word. I googled it, yahooed it, and blogsearched it, and have only seen one result which looks like it was used in another context (it was the title of a blog that went nowhere but looks like it was meant to be just short for something unrelated).
So, I do hereby claim, as of May 26th, 2006, to be the first person to coin the word 'veercast'. A veercast (a smoothing of VRcast) is a distributed Virtual Reality experience much like a podcast, but with VR. It can be fictional or real, newstory like. Since we don't have commonplace VR it won't be used for a while obviously, but in case it does become popular I'm staking my claim for posterity.
Anyway, the story really has very little to do with veercasting it was just a throwaway line I came up with on the way.
And before I go, one silly meme from
