newnumber6: (runaways)

Well, the networks have announced their fall TV schedules (here's a good one-stop site where you can look at all of them), so I've done my regular lookthrough for new shows that grab my attention, as well as watching out for moves of old shows.

Of renewals, Veronica Mars is the only one that really concerned me, it was on the bubble and I'm glad it's coming back, even if I haven't yet seen season 2 yet. Other shows on my watch list that are returning either were pretty well guaranteed or I don't care enough about even if they might be mildly interesting. Some shows are moving around on the schedule, but I think I can make it all work.

New shows, however, two of my early 'this show could be cool, pay attention' shows made it. Heroes about ordinary people discovering they have superhuman powers. Here's a semi spoilery outline listing the cast of characters including their abilities. Looks like a good cast and I have a good feeling about this one.

Also new there's Jericho about a small town in America cut off from the rest of the country after some kind of nuclear apocalypse. Jericho stars Skeet Ulrich, the male Johnny Depp, who was in Miracles.

Of minor interest due to casting, from Firefly both Gina Torres and Adam Baldwin have series on the slate. Gina Torres is in the FOX hostage negotiation drama Standoff, which doesn't sound terribly interesting to me, and Adam Baldwin is in an ABC midseason replacement show Day Break, which is about a person who relives the same day over and over again. So like Groundhog Day, only stretched out into a whole series, and a drama. I don't think Baldwin plays the rerunner. Dunno how good that show can be, the format seems like it could get old very fast. Oh, and of course Inara will be on Stargate SG-1 this season in a recurring role, so the Firefly cast is doing fairly well.

Sadly a noshow on the schedule was Untitled Zombie Project, a proposed one hour drama about survivors of a zombie apocalypse. Mmmmm, zombies. But I guess the world's just not ready for a weekly zombie TV series. Yet.

Of course all of this doesn't count the cable networks, but since I'll usually have to wait a while or download to get them anyway, I don't have to worry about them.

So, here's my breakdown night by night (for fall):

These are the "will try not to miss" ones on my list, at least tentatively. I'll be watching other stuff but if they conflict with something else I'm fine with jettisoning them. Luckily, at this point, none of my Don't Miss shows conflict so it's a fairly stress free year.

Monday
At 8- Prison Break
At 9- Heroes
Wednesday
At 8- Jericho
At 9- Lost
Thursday
At 9- Grey's Anatomy
Friday
At 10- Numb3rs

I don't get CW so I'll be downloading Veronica Mars and Space will hopefully be running Supernatural on Saturday nights again cause I've recently started getting into that. Weekends are also the point where Space usually places the US cable channel SF shows. Sundays I suppose will be Simpsons/Family Guy/American Dad if there's no other SF show that takes priority.

Thanks for those links. I didn't know about Jericho, but I'm now looking forward to watching it. I did already know about Heros and planned on watching that one from the beginning. :)

Yeah, Heroes is the #1 'woo I hope this is as cool on the screen as it is in my head' show for me this year. Jericho's just kinda the 'could be good, depending on what they do with it', so I'll give it a look since there's nothing else on at the same time.

You're going to cave and dl Veronica Mars!!! :D YAY! :P And it was renewed!! Woot! And you can find stuff about the upfronts/tv schedules at tv.com too:http://www.tv.com/story/story.html&story_id=4475&page=1 Just so you know. I did notice the Heroes show you mentioned before was picked up, I think that'll be a cool show. :D (I'm sorry about the zombie show for you though....lol :P) And about Supernatural, it seems like a pretty good show, I've only seen part of the pilot so far...and although it seems kinda scary (yes I'm a wimp) I'm going to try to watch the whole thing and see if I like it. :)

Yeah, I've decided that now that I've got my new computer and it can play tv show videos without the video horribly lagging behind sound unless I pause it every few seconds, I'm going to start downloading. Though I might watch S2 during the summer and then download S3 once I'm caught up. Or maybe I won't. I dunno, depends on how soon they start.

I haven't even seen the pilot of Supernatural, I just caught the occasional episode about midway through the season and decided it wasn't bad. But it's not good enough that I feel the need to track down all the other eps, I'll just watch it as it comes in. :)

Well that's awesome that you can watch it now anyways, I figured the reason you could now dl it was because of the new computerness. (oh that's a word now ;P) If you need a good community to dl the VM episodes, let me know k? Cause I found one that is awesome. :D Supernatural seemed like an ok show from what I saw...just...kinda scary...the mom ends up on the ceiling with all these flames...yeah, scary. But I want to try to watch the whole thing and see if I can watch it without the scary parts taking over in my mind...cause see that's why I'm a wimp when it comes to shows...I have an overactive imagination and scary stuff sometimes sticks with me and I freak myself out with it later you know? :P I know that sounds kinda wimpy and odd...but I don't enjoy being freaked out for days lol.

Interesting...

If Skeet was the Male Johnny Depp, JD is the ???Female??? version...?

I'm looking forward to Jericho. Something diffent for once. Enough with the reality crap tv. Ice Dancing with Celebrity Pets is next.

Well, Johnny Depp certainly isn't the male Johnny Depp, anyway! I dunno, really, I just saw that description of Skeet Ulrich on a review for his show Miracles years ago, and ever since then I can't think of his name without prefacing it with 'the male Johnny Depp'.

Heroes does sound interesting. I'm always wary of network TV, and tend to view it on DVD or download later. Though my roommate got us one of those non-TiVo digital recorder boxes one day, I may learn to use that.

Also, I <3 Veronica Mars. My 'rents and another friend wanted me to watch it, so I netflixed it. <3.
