Just this morning I was saying how it was pretty much impossible.

Well, they fooled me.

JOSS WHEDON WILL BE TAKING OVER RUNAWAYS.

Wait, are... areyou serious? Because if you are, that' is the best news I've heard, like, in a long time. Just yesterday I was thinking to myself "Self? It's really too bad Joss is over on X-Men because he would do a totally AWESOME job with Runaways."

I am completely serious. He talks about it here (among other comic news places). When I heard BKV was leaving and that we'd all be really excited about the new creative team, I was thinking, 'oh boy, everyone's going to think it's Whedon because he's a fan and he'd be perfect, and he would, but there's no way he'd be able to commit to that'. But it turns out I am a cynical fool and, yay for me being a cynical fool!

I think its the GREATEST news I've heard in a long time!!!! I love BKV's work, but this...is just an amazing concept.

Well... that's... unexpected.

I had him totally in the "yeah, he'd be great but he's never gonna do it" category as you know.

Saw the news this morning and my only reaction is O.O

I think it's good in that it'll get Runaways exposure, though Joss's X-Men work was solid but not my favorite run on the series or anything; Grant Morrison's run (for all its flaws) still intrigued me more and got me back into comics after years away. Fscker. I need to punch him for that some day.

Still though, I hope it makes Runaways more successful.

I was going to say that I probably wouldn't call Joss Whedon's run on X-Men my favorite, then I realized I couldn't think of a run that I did consider a favorite. Not Grant Morrison's - he had some good ideas but too much wtfness (in a bad way). Nor Austen, dropped Milligan, and Claremont, though I enjoy him at times, is still not that great. So maybe Whedon is the closest to my favorite there is (he needed a stronger editor though to point out when a story's been done and when one doesn't make sense, and to be on a longer run). I guess I read X-Men just to bitch about it ;). Or more accurately, I really enjoy the story the X-Men mythos as a whole makes in my head more than I do the actual work.

Still, I'm pleased to see Whedon on Runaways - I think Runaways plays more to Whedon's strengths anyway. And he doesn't have to worry about decades of continuity he's admittedly missed.
