New Comic Day + Other Foo
Nov. 15th, 2006 06:52 pmThis week I got 4 books:
Astonishing X-Men #18 (My pick of the week, but there are still big problems with the story)
Birds of Prey #100 (nice story, interesting setup for a new status quo, but not sure if I connect to the new characters)
Cable & Deadpool #34 (not a big funny issue, but still not bad)
Civil War #5 (I'm starting to sour on Civil War even more. Nice art, though).
Full reviews up as usual at my comic reviews site for anyone interested.
Also picked up Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, by J.K. Rowling.
For lunch I had a gypsy salami sandwich. Mmmmm, gypsies.
Work wasn't bad. Relatively on time and a lighter load to boot.
So, as a consequence of that, I didn't take the bus home and instead walked, which means I did a full circuit. Walk thoughts behind the cut, mostly writing related.
Okay, so, yesterday I didn't quite finish the short story I was working on. I got to my word target, and I was willing to write more, but I just got stuck. I had the beginning, the middle, and the end of my story, there was just a small little bit of connective tissue between the middle and the end that I had to write that I was just stuck on.
The walk helped me out of that, I know what to do now, and should finish it tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I didn't really settle on an idea to start next... I'll probably work on a variety of stuff until one catches my imagination.
Well, I lie, a little. A new idea did capture my attention some. It was one of those times where I think of something that would be an amusing TITLE for a story, and then my mind starts building the story around the title. However, it is another AI story. And I'm a little leery of writing another AI story so soon after I finished one. Even though a lot of my story ideas deal with AI and AI rights, I want to space them out a little. Plus, the subject matter's a little... iffy (at least, it is if I stick to the title as I planned it) and I'm not sure I want to write it, and I haven't really blocked out the whole story anyway. I'll let it percolate in my subconscious and come back to it when I'm ready.
Dream foo, involving a SF writer and FPS!
Okay, I dreamed I was at a comic convention and (strangely) talking to some comic creators. I don't know who they were, but anyway, SF writer Harlan Ellison was there and the comic writers introduced me to him. I said I was a fan of his stories and all that. Dream-HE looked and sounded exactly like Harlan Ellison does, too, rather than just being a name and a feeling of them actually being there.
Anyway, somehow we were then together getting ready to play some kind of online First Person Shooting type game, we'd all be on one team playing against someone else.
That's about all I can remember on it, though.
Oh, and my mom's coming into town next week, so we'll be meeting her for lunch.
