newnumber6Haven't done one of these in a while, because, well, everything's been in reruns. Well, almost everything.
I'll be talking about Torchwood, Doctor Who (Xmas special), and Stargate Atlantis (the episodes that have aired in Canada, up through 3x16 or 3x17 or something). Some spoilers, but not too much. Also some icons.
Torchwood: Okay, there are occasional good moments in this one. I liked the 'people from the past' episode. But with the latest episode, I've come within a hair's breadth of giving up on the series entirely - I'll still finish up the season so I can see what Jack's been up to that leads up to the next year on DW, but I'll skip Season 2 unless S1 ends with something really special.
It's just... I have trouble liking any of the characters for very long. And the latest straw with Gwen has made me write her off forever. Stupid, selfish bitca. Not to mention the plot of the new one was derivative and dumb.
Doctor Who Xmas Special: I liked it. Sure, there were elements I didn't like (I really am getting sick of the Doctor's sonic screwdriver being able to do ANYTHING the writers want on a moment's notice), but overall the story was entertaining and the Doctor's interactions with the Bride was fun. Also enjoyed seeing the preview of new episodes.
Stargate Atlantis: Hmmm... let's see, a quick roundup. The solution to the cliffhanger was pretty well done, I'm pleased with it (even though I figured out part of the solution in advance they still managed to fool me). Episode after that had some good bits but there was some really wonky science in it (if the flares were that regular and that devastating, life shouldn't have evolved there at all - some token reference to it being relatively more dangerous these last few times because of a more active cycle, or something like that would have been nice). The return of a previous character I never expected to see again was a bit of a surprise, but the episode itself was only okay, marked only slightly better because they made amjor lasting changes to a recurring plotline. Tao of Rodney was enjoyable for the most part, and the Game was just kinda dumb.
