This week I got just two books:

Avengers: The Initiative #1 (Surprisingly, my pick of the week, managed to endear me to new characters and some shocks)
Runaways #25 (Good, certainly, but after all the expectations it can't help but be a bit disappointing... still, it's JOSS WHEDON WRITING RUNAWAYS. That fact alone makes it worth picking up. Whedonmaniacs on my flist, take note!)

Full reviews up as usual at my comic reviews site for anyone interested.

Work was bleh. Truck was late and a heavier load, so didn't get home till almost 6. Bleh. Ah well. Saw Vinge's Rainbow's End in paperback finally, but I'm giving it 2 weeks to see if it shows up at the used bookstore - it's happened with a couple very new paperback releases recently.

Skipped lunch, had cheerios + brown sugar mini-wheats for breakfast. Walk was good, tiring, but good for the plotbunnies... managed to shape a seed of an short story idea into a little more of a plot.

In other news, I joined facebook on a whim this weekend. Looked up some people I went to school with. Then, weird coincidences started happening. First, not an hour after I signed up, apparently someone i used to talk with on IRC randomly searched me and friended me. Then, the next morning, my mom apparently signed up to facebook for the first time, and also friended me. I had no conversation with her, we just both joined up within 1 day of each other. Weird. I don't care much for the interface though, so much prefer LJ for blogging my thoughts and updating on my status, but I'll keep the facebook account for keeping up with and randomly reuniting with older acquaintences.

I'll be getting a Facebook account soon...my sister's been bugging me to.

Also, I've eaten the brown sugar frosted mini-wheats today too :)

I like the mini-wheats, but I only get them when they're on sale. Though the strawberry ones are currently my favorite. :)

I keep hearing about Facebook at school. It seems like it's the only thing for university students to keep in contact with each other.

And I have some questions about Runaways #25. I managed to find the last six issues and finished off BKV's run, but I'm still confused. I blame Civil War because I didn't follow any of that. So Iron Man shows up in Runaways #24. And now suddenly the team's in New York. Is Tony trying to recruit the Runaways or something? And who is the big scarred guy with the honking sword with Punisher at the end? I'm so confused.

I think one of the reasons is that it seems to encourage use of real names and real photos. They're not mandatory, but I see it much more than on places like LJ and even myspace when I've dared venture there. So it's easy to search for specific people, and therefore easier for people to hook up with people they know in the real world.

As to Runaways... the last issue ended with everybody returning to the Hostel to find Tony Stark and SHIELD agents waiting for them - because when they last left it (in a hurry), they neglected stealth and were seen. Exactly what occured after that happened off-panel, but it's assumed that they ran away (it's their name, after all), and escaped, and, since they couldn't go back to their Hostel, decided to try New York. ANd yeah, because of Civil War any superhuman who's not registered (or who is registered but is operating as a superhero without a license) is actively hunted by the law. So that's why they're seeking some help in remaining underground.

The big scarred guy is a new character, as far as I can tell. I have my suspicions as to who the lady who sent him is, but it gets into potentially spoilery territory so I'll keep them to myself. :)

I'm betting on Nanny, the chick who pulls Orphan Maker's strings.

Anyway, I haven't read all of the Initiative #1 but I do like Cloud 9 a lot so far. She offers a good view on how a real teen would feel given those circumstances. Especially in regards to who most female superhumans tend to look like models which is a fair point

My guess is a little closer to the Runaways own history. :)

As to Cloud 9, yeah, I agree. I tend to appreciate heroes that are a little insecure about themselves instead of supremely confident (because I know if I was one, I would be), and it's certainly nice to go a little outside the standard female hero body types.

Bah, and I totally misread your first question because I am lame and soemtimes skim when reading something between commercial breaks. I thought you said you _hadn't_ read the last six. So yeah, you already know Iron Man showed up. So yeah, it's a bit disconnected, but you can sort of piece it together.
