Happy New Year to all on my flist that celebrate it.

Also...

Remember this phrase for 2008...
"Two friends sail to the sun,
two friends may walk Saturn's moons."

Using only this phrase, you will easily be able to calculate what day of the week any date in 2008 falls on, in your head.

Here's how it works:

There are 12 words in the phrase. Each word corresponds to one month, and tells you what day of the week the first is. Words startung with Tu or a 'two' sound mean Tuesdays, Words starting with a Th mean Thursdays, words starting with a 'Sa' mean Saturdays, and words starting with 'Su' mean Sundays. The rest are self-explanatory. So, now you know what day of the week the 1st of any month is. It's the same as the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Using these facts it's trivial to count ahead or behind to figure out any day of the year.

So, say if you wanted to know the 14th of September. September is the 9th month, and the ninth word is 'may' which means the 1st, 8th, 15th are Mondays, which naturally means the 14th is a Sunday.

Use this power wisely, for it will set you apart from normal human beings, who will hate and fear you.

This is cool but my brain is exploding thinking how I'd EVER remember all that. O.O

Well, it was fairly easy for me. Just a few repetitions over a few days, and the first few times I had to look it up, but eventually it becomes a habit. You can also change the words (making sure to use words that start with the same letter, of course) to something that would be more easy to remember for you, of course, but I find it being slightly nonsensical helps me remember it right, because the more it makes sense the easier it is to accidentally slip in the wrong word - instead I remember it like a line of poetry or something.

(Last year's was "Move through the sunny tulip fields, surf will still move the sand")
