So today I came across something that was supposedly the conceptual outline for Stargate Universe, the long talked about 3rd Stargate series.

I have no idea if it's accurate, and even if it is they might have moved on, but I'm going to put it behind a cut anyway because if it is true there are conceptual spoilers.

The link is here, a post on some foreign-language forum, that was supposedly a gateworld article in progress that presumably got pulled, but since it's a cache to a forum and may not continue to be around, I'll just cut and paste a couple relevant bits.

It's got to be two things that are contradictory: It has to be very different from Stargate, but it also has to feel like a Stargate. And to do that what we wanted to do was literally live up to the name -- the reason it's called Stargate Universe -- is because this is one step further out into the universe aboard a ship that was launched by the Ancients to cross the universe in exploration millennia, millennia, millennia ago."

Did he say ... ship? Yes, and we're not talking about the kind between Sam and Jack. Stargate Universe looks to be a ship-based series, which will help set it apart from its two predecessors. But this isn't Stargate Daedalus -- like the city of Atlantis, the ship was built by the Ancients.

"They had planned to go there and to see what was out there, but they all ascended and no one ever went to it. When we find out it's still out there and can be reached by using the ninth chevron on a Stargate, and that's what the ninth chevron is for."

...

---

It's supposedly from October of 2007, and nobody's heard anything since, but that was also right before the writer's strike. Stargate might not have have been affected (since SG:A is still ongoing, with their mostly Canadian non-WGA writing and production team), but it's possible it was in some obscure backlash way.
However, most importantly, anybody remember this post I made long ago? Where I talked about what a 3rd spinoff might be? Yes, (Stephen Colbert)I CALLED IT(/Stephen Colbert). And once I heard the 9th Chevron was involved a long time back, I modified that initial outline in my head, but if I posted it I can't seem to find it. Maybe I just talked about it with other people, but as I recall, that made it even closer to their info here.

In short, I should _totally_ write for Stargate, we're in synch! ;)

Hee, I've always said that you should write for Stargate, haven't I? :-)

It certainly sounds interesting. They would still be exploring and visiting new worlds and stuff, but setting it on a ship really does open up more possibilities. No comforts of home and you're stuck in this one place with crushing death outside. And I bet dialing the ninth chevron takes tons of power so this team would be cut off. Sure they could fly back home, but that would still take time. I've always liked the idea of cutting a team off from Earth; Atlantis had that but they totally abandoned the idea. If this team is on their own, for a long time, they would start creating their own little community on this ship.

So I assume the Ancients seeded a bunch of galaxies, not just Pegasus and the Milky Way. Would the civilizations there also speak English? ;-)
