Yeah, I do the same thing, not just with comics but with movies and tv shows too sometimes. Heck I have a whole tag for that sort of thing. Sometimes I go for a more "creating new stuff" route like I did here, and sometimes I sort of go on the premise of "okay, this idea wasn't too bad, here's what would have made it work" and put a spin on the canon like you were doing.
As to your ideas: Yes, that makes a lot more sense for the Majesdanians. It was one of the things that really bugged me about the topic. It seemed like the plot crafted without regard to what makes sense. I mean, I can see them wanting to try Karolina. It's a bit odd, but I don't have a fundamental problem. What I had trouble with was the seeming attitude of "We want Karolina. Oh, you? Yeah, you're that skrull who was also there and part of the race we were at war with who destroyed your whole planet. We don't like you, so get out of the way while we punish Karolina!"... Uhm, Xavin should be just as much a target if not more. But of course, if Xavin _was_, then Moore couldn't have pulled the "masquerading as Karolina" trick at the end, which shouldn't have worked anyway. But yes, your idea makes much more sense there (and is a bit similar to something in my own ideas, although mine leaves out the threat to Earth). Your idea certainly seems a lot more workable than what was in canon, and gives Karolina something of a kick to her self esteem as being yet another type of outcast.
I'd love to hear your ideas on Rock Zombies, since that seemed to me to be a sort of an okay (but rather uninspired) idea that was handled poorly all around.
