Finished: Finder, by Emma Bull
Started: Sundiver, by David Brin
Finder wasn't bad, overall. Some things came out as I expected, although not quite for the reasons I suspected. I'd say I enjoyed it, however, it doesn't interest me quite enough to want to seek out other books in the Borderlands shared universe.
Sundiver is the first book in the Uplift series by David Brin, which I've been wanting to read because the second and third books won Nebula or Hugo awards (can't remember which). The general world plot is that upon contacting other extraterretrial races, humans found themselves in an uncertain situation, because every other intelligent race was made intelligent by another race, and there was a complex hierarchy of status based on patronage and uplifting other races. Humans did it themselves, and uplifted Chimps and Dolphins before ever meeting another alien race. The current book deals with an expedition into the sun where there's been evidence of sun-based life forms which some think might have started Humanity's uplift long long ago, and the abandoned it. It's decent so far.
