So, since the rest of my adventure wasn't done yet, we started the Dragonstar campaign run by my brother.
Our characters; Griffin, the mechanist/wizard (me), and Ostara, a half-dragon/half-elf cleric and psionicist in training (0 level in each).
The campaign started with an accident in our 4 person scout vessel, that left us 200 light years away from our previous position, with a whole bunch of damage, and the captain dead. We were also on the edge of the Dark Zone, which is a nasty area of space that people go in but few make it out. We were receiving a distress signal, so Griffin assumed command (and renaming the ship, for the moment, from 'the Arrowhead' to 'Griffin's Arrowhead'), and piloted us towards it. He figured worst case scenario, everyone's dead and it's salvagable for parts. Then reconsidered, that worst case scenario was that it was a trap of some sort, or that there was a black hole right there, but a medium-case scenario is everyone's dead and it's salvagable.
The ship was a freighter, and in flying around it we saw something that looked like a giant purple coconut next to the ship, with tendrils reaching onto the ship. One of the airlocks was free though, s after much discussion, we decided to dock and take a quick look around. Mining sensors (the only ones available) detected mithral somewhere, and we were badly in need of fuel.
Aboard the ship everything was still and quiet. We investigated the cargo hold to see what these people were carrying (boxes were labled Childrens Toys and Pillowcases, so Griffin instantly suspected smugglers because, well, who _ships_ pillowcases? Although the box of toys seemed to be toys, the pillowcases box was a cover for an autodoc system which isn't at all illegal.
At any rate, we moved onto the crew quarters, Griffin hacking his way in. The first cabin just looked dirty and had a datapad of porn on it, and there was a locked chest. Griffin suggested to Ostara that, rather than rifling through the man's things right away, they check the rest of the ship to see if anyone's alive. (He did, however, take the porn. Left out porn is fair game)
On the bridge everything was empty, and the purple coconut was visible. We pulled up sensors which detected no humanoid lifesigns on the ship, and a log entry which suggested that the last two crew members boarded the purple coconut after the other crewmembers never came back. So, we naturally assumed these were _stupid_ smugglers and went riflig through their things. There were legal and semi-legal drugs, some credit sticks, and what looked like an illegal (for freighters) military-grade shield generator.
About this time we noticed the purple coconut was apparently enveloping the laser, moving it through the sphincter-style opening. So, we made haste back to our ship and try and pull away. It was too late though, our ship was caught by the tendrils. We rushed back to the bridge of the freighter and tried to blast at it, but it looked like the energy was feeding the ship.
So, with no choice, we had to enter the purple coconut ourselves. It had an overall organic look and the gateways all looked like sphcinters, so naturally it was icky. There was a hall with a bunch of coffin-style containers and two of them opened. Purple looking nude people, one elf, one human, came out and attacked us with weird claws. Griffin took some damage, Ostara didn't (and Fortitude checks after each damage made Griffin very wary). Eventually though, we killed them. Griffin was mainly reduced to using his wrench so as not to provoke an attack of opportunity (in one shot he did knock the jaw of the creature off, though). Continuing to explore, we found another sphincterdoor going down and opening that we saw a purple being with chains attached to his arms, that he could retract and whip out at will. We opened fire immediately, but he was tough to kill and regenerated slightly, and so we took some damage before killing him. Which is where we broke, cause I had work this morning and twas bed.
Memorable quotes: 'Ooh, shiny.' (Griffin after finding an elaborate gun in the captain's lockchest).
O: 'What's on the datapad.' GM: 'Some games, random information, mostly porn.' G: I take the datapad. (Griffin is not known for the social graces)
O: 'Okay, I stick my hand in it.' GM: 'It's really gooey, but inside you feel a metal cyllinder.' O:'Should I pull it out?' G: 'Well, if you don't, you just stuck your hand in a slimy hole for nothing.' (After Ostara found a weird hold in the coffins the purple people came from. She took it out).
O: 'I search them.' GM: 'Well, they're nude. You could search their sphincters, if you wanted.' G: 'This alien race does seem to keep a lot of their stuff in sphincters.'
G (after getting worried he was infected by whatever turned them purple): 'If I start turning purple, give me 20 minutes with the porn, then kill me.'
