AlternalJournal!
Nov. 7th, 2004 03:32 pmI've mentioned before that sometimes do what I call ego-writing... writing stories where I, (or occasionally a thinly veiled version of me but with the name and a couple minor details changed) am in some wild situation: aliens, super powers, post-apocalypses, etc, to both entertain myself and practice a bit of writing even though it's not meant to lead to anywhere professional.
One of the things I've considered doing recently is trying it as a journal.
That is, a realtime journal, where I choose some situation, and do it as though I'm keeping a journal of my
travels, but keeping in mind the passage of time - so if I go three days without updating, three days have passed within that 'time'. Not quite a story per se with a beginning, middle, and end, more a simulation with some story elements. So I can sort of keep it running as a 'how my life might be right now if it was somewhat cooler' type thing. More specifically, doing it as a livejournal, so it'll be in my friends list and I'll be reminded to keep updating. Sort of like one of the 'In Character' journals people sometimes do for their MU* characters, except different.
I think I'm going to give it a try. It'll be my Alternaljournal. I just have to decide what concept to go with. Do I get whisked away to another dimension, time, or place? Do I stay on Earth and suddenly acquire super powers or there's a nuclear war or zombies roam the earth?
Decisions, decisions...
