I'm ashamed, but I watched the finale of Average Joe, Hawaii.
And it was so, so stupid it was almost funny.
(spoilers, and general thoughts on love, etc, behind the cut tag, in case anyone care)

I hadn't watched many of the middle episodes, pretty much just the first and the last. So, I noticed not only was the last of the 'average guys' pretty much the most normal looking.. not ugly, not balding, not super geeky, not overweight, etc..
And, yes, she chose the 'non-average hunk', even though it was clear the other guy really cared for her and the 'hunk' was just sort of sliding through it.

Now, here's the kicker. They'd been advertising a 'secret from the girl's past that she'll reveal on tonight's show'. So, after she made her decision and ran off with hunk guy, she revealed it. Her deep, dark secret from her past was, something that she didn't want the guy to hear from anyone else.
The thing was... (are you read)...
She used to date Fabio.
Yes, that's it. Not that she used to be involved in adult films, or she's bisexual, or that she's a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. That she used to date Fabio.
And what's more... THE GUY COULDN'T TAKE IT. THE RELATIONSHIP ENDED BECAUSE SHE ONCE DATED FABIO!
He was all 'Any guy in my position would feel the same way.' Bull.
Anyway, I do kinda feel a little bad for the Average Guy she didn't pick. I really hate these kind of shows, for messing with people's emotions like that.
I think on some level I've always been aware the supreme injustice in the world is that it's possible to love someone who doesn't love you back. Probably it's one of (but not the only) reason I have trouble believing in an all-powerful, all benevolent god type entity. Unrequited love might be good for some stories, but as part of a system actual people have to be a part of, it sucks. An remember, without it, we wouldn't have shows like this.

I think Fabio is soooooooo over-rated.
And I don't understand that "any guy in my position..." line. What, did he feel he could never live up to Fabio?
Fabio's icky!

She should have went for the "geek". He truly truly had feelings for her, and I was so sure she did for him.

Stupid tv ending. Grumble grumble.
