Spoilers obviously for Wednesday night stuffs (Alias, Lost)

Okay, first, I liked Lost an awful lot - it was a good episode. But as a season ending cliffhanger, it stunk - I was hoping we'd get at least _some_ answers, but instead they were just playing the old string-a-long again. I have no confidence of anything being revealed in the first episode either - notice the ladder in the hatch stops after the first few rungs? As soon as I saw that, I thought, "Well, that there's the excuse they're going to use to not reveal anything about the hatch in the first episode, since they'll have to rig up a way to get down there safely, and there'll probably just be another hatch or something dangerous beyond that" So, I was a little unsatisfied. Still, I liked it - I just think hardly anything was actually answered.

Random connectiveness thought - what if the people Boone contacted on the radio wasn't the outside world, but rather The Others. They have a boat, maybe they have a radio too. If you make that assumption, then the Lost crew have had no communication with the outside world, and could still be in another dimension, another time, planet, etc.

Alias? Well, I was hoping Irina's return would undo it, but it hasn't. I have officially Stopped Caring about Alias. I mean, yeah, the cliffhanger was shocking and abrupt and kinda cool for all that... but at this point I'll be perfectly happy to let this be the end of the story. I probably will watch it in the fall because they're moving to Thursday, and watching Alias will keep me from watching Survivor, but I won't obsess.

And I sooooo want to slap the people behind Alias. If the resolution to "My name isn't really Michael Vaughan" is anything _other_ than... "I was pulling your leg, honey, but it was a really bad time for it since I got hit by a car", I will proceed to slap the TV, being the nearest representative of the Alias-people. NOT EVERY CHARACTER NEEDS A MYSTERIOUS INVOLVED SECRET ORIGIN. It was bad enough they were teasing with Vaughan's father being alive. Next up, I'm sure they'll have Marshall's DARK SECRET - he was actually only _pretending_ to be a goofy little tech genius. Actually, he's a super secret spy for "The ORder" a mysteriously unheard of Rambaldi Worshipper Terrorist Group who use high tech Rambaldi-tech to give their agents super-tech abilities.

Not to mention the whole 'Oh look we didn't kill Nadia after all'. If you're going to set up a prophecy where one is supposed to kill the other, at least have the guts to go through with it. Actually, I was rooting for the Alias team to fail, and for zombie-ness to spread through out the world, and the next season they have to just DEAL with it in a post-apocalyptic way. But then, I've been wanting that from some show or another for a long time.

Except for the last few seconds which gets a few points for shock-value-cliffhanger-magic, I rate the Alias finale a big 'Meh.'

My main worry? That the 'stringing things along and making up more and more twists to mangle the characters into submissions, while never changing the status quo' that's infected Alias will infect Lost too.

JJ Abhrams may have talent, but Joss Whedon's still my master - at least he knows how to wrap things up before the audience gets sick of them. (Now, if somehow the two could work together... well, the world would probably explode, but it'd be an awfully fun way to go)

Sorry, I felt I had to rant a bit, seeing as how almost everyone on my friends list seem to be squeeing over both. ;) Maybe I'm just a curmudgeon.
