Dream Foo and Social Interaction Report
Apr. 16th, 2006 05:02 pmFirst, it's Easter. So, happy Easter to all that celebrate. I don't celebrate it as a religious holiday, just as a 'get the family together for a big meal' holiday. Though Greek Easter's much better (except for the fact that that side of the family's grown a bit more dysfunctional in recent years so we don't have the big family gatherings + lamb roasted on a spit that we used to)
Anyway, yesterday we went to my Dad's place and just had a big ol' meal. Pretty good stuff, had ham, roast beef (lots of it), potatoes, gravy, rice, veggies, plus chocolates, candies, cookies, two types of ice cream (Oreo and Turtles). And lots of leftovers to take home. Was fairly nice all in all. Nobody got into a huge screaming argument at least, so lets count it a win.
Now, Dream Foo: a dream, which involved work... Basically, in the dream I was going blind for short periods of time and having to stop whatever I was doing, and I had no energy either. I was trying to hide this though. Eventually I had to confess what was happening, and someone who was a doctor or nurse on scene diagnosed me with 'hyperkinetic dysthymia', which was supposedly really rare and obscure, but dream-me had heard of it, or something much like it. I asked didn't that mean there was some part of my brain producing too little of something, and she said, 'well, no, technically' and then I remembered and said 'It can be caused equally by there being too much of something, the 'too little' is describing the symptoms', such as losing sight and energy. She asked how I heard of it and I mentioned I read it in a book except in that case since it was SF it gave the person mental powers which they used to save the world. Dream-me wondered privately if that meant this disease was psychosomatic or if it was just the weirdest coincidence ever. Anyway, the 'hyperkinetic' part suggested that it only flared up when I was doing physical work, like, well, my job. That's about as far as I got before I woke up. (No post-dream web searches have turned up anything on hyperkinetic dysthymia, of course, just normal dysthymia which I already knew about)
Finally, the 6 Social Interaction Report. 2 for one edition.
Didn't mention it before, but on Thursday's work (worked Thurs instead of Friday this week because of holiday, but still worked Sunday, but then I've gotten used to things not making any logical sense there), I saw pixiefaced girl again.. she wasn't working (and therefore wasn't in uniform so looked a lot cuter), she just wanted to pick up her cheque, but the guy with the cheques wasn't there yet so she had to hang around and talked a little. Nothing really all that exciting though, just chit chat about the manager being late and her schedule for the next few days. Oh, and she mentioned a boyfriend, which really only confirmed what I already expected, but as it's only an idle fancy and I couldn't see anything ever happening either way it's only a mild disappointment and doesn't really change anything. Fairly pleasant interaction though, had me (mentally) smiling.
This morning she wasn't working like she usually does on Sunday, but I saw the other girl who starts at roughly the same time as me and shows up a few minutes early, so we talked a bit. Again, nothing of dramatic importance, but it was, again, fairly pleasant and I didn't feel more awkward than I usually do, so call it a win.
Also of note is I finally learned her actual name, which is nice because I'm horrible at getting anybody's names. There's people I've known by face for years that I don't know by name and I can't really ask. Heck, even pixie-face girl above, I don't know her name. Of course, in this case I only got the name because someone else came in and asked her something about it (specifically, how they dealt with it when working with the two other people with the same name there).
A few other people were in and out of the room and I participated a bit in a more group conversation (rather than my usual tendency to go quiet and let the other people in the room talk amongst themselves... which was still mostly how it went, but a couple times I was addressed directly by one of the people I worked with).
Oh, and she gave me a marshmallow-strawberry candy-thingie, so yay, I got some sugar out of it, which is a bonus. ;)
