OMG DREAMS
Jul. 3rd, 2006 08:17 amWow, last night was a dream filled night. Behind the cut: A warning from beyond space and time! A recurring dream! A complete horror movie dreamed up!
Okay, first, this dream messed me up because it sort of looped in on itself. Not in time, but in the sensation of dreaming itself. It's hard to even describe. As best as I can...
While I was lying in bed trying to sleep (in the dream), some force from outside space and time launched itself into my mind and rearranged things. I could actually feel my mind being warped, and then I felt my body moving without my control I sat up and started talking. Started warning, about some catastrophe coming. I didn't get the impression that it was coming immediately, but on the order of decades.
There was one particular image the thing implanted in my mind. It started like an avalanche... of brussel-sprouts. Except when the vision zoomed in, I realized it wasn't brussle sprouts at all, but rather some kind of swarm of round robotic creatures who happened to have green as a predominant colour. They were from space and flew to planets and essentially ate them, like replicators.
The thing that invaded them then told me that I had to be ready, I had to prepare the world to fight them off. Then it left me. But when it left me it was like there was a huge wound in my mind. I wasn't able to think straight. I remember just lying there being unable to form advanced conscious thought, and then slowly starting to dream again, little things, but each dream was slowly restoring my mind until I could think again. I can't really remember any of those dreams.
For a while, lying in bed there after the dream before I was able to go back to sleep, I wasn't able to tell if the warning was real or not. I still wonder a bit.
Anyway, next up, a little later in the night, was one of my recurring dreams: Suddenly I'm back in high school, and it's the first day, but somehow I lost or don't know my schedule and I spend the whole dream trying to find the office in order to find out what class I'm supposed to be in before it starts. Not terribly exciting. Slightly interesting in that real people I was in school with were there this time - usually I don't recognize anybody.
Finally, I had a dream that I was watching a cheesy horror movie called Blood Rain. The plot was there was this organism that infected the world, and it was carried on the rain. It was some kind of worm, at least when fully grown (I suspect it was some kind of bacteria at first and then when in a human host it grew), and it infected food and such all over the world. Sort of like 28 days later, it turned everyone infected into killers. Except there was a big difference. Everyone basically kept their own intelligence most of the time, it's just that seeing another person provoked an instinctual 'I must kill this person or be killed myself' feeling that was overwhelming. But they didn't have to act on it right away, they could hold off until an opportune time. So if an infected person didn't have a weapon and an uninfected person did, the infected person could act more or less normal and sympathetic until they had a weapon. Also, unlike many of these movies, the infected don't have a bias against their own kind, they attack them just as freely if not more so.
The movie started with a father and two kids who weren't infected but rather holed up. He was trying to keep them safe. Eventually though, the bug got into their water supply. I don't know exactly what happened, but next thing I saw only one of the kids was alive, and he seemed perfectly normal (this was before we in the movie knew how the infected worked). Someone came in to their farmhouse seeking shelter, and the kid seemed happy that somebody new was there, and went to go and get them some food or something... and then suddenly burst through the door with a sickle and tried to kill her (the newcomer was a woman).
The scenes that followed were sort of a quick bunch of similar 'person comes to the farmhouse, and one or the other or both turns murderous at the first opportunity' scenes. Quite early on in this the kid died (maybe even the first one, I can't remember), and basically a few different characters were introduced only to die and become the new 'survivor' in the farmhouse. I (watching the movie in my dream) was sort of rolling my eyes and thinking it was a bit cheesy that they're not leaving anyone to root for or connect with because they keep killing everyone off.
Anyway, after that, something changed and a new twist to the plot was revealed. The worm was heat triggered. The first scenes had taken place in summer, so everyone was permanently 'on', but as fall and winter came, the worm was dormant so people could work together to survive a little. Except 'heat triggered' meant not only outside heat, but internal heat... like if you got really angry at someone (or for that matter, passionate about someone in another way), your internal heat would rise enough, the worm would become active, and you'd want to kill them. But anyway, the respite allowed a few people to cooperate and we followed them briefly.
A bit of a jump cut of stuff that I can't remember followed, some suggestion of a former prison inmate being the only one to survive the movie somewhere in there, and the next I remember was a night scene where a guy was running through the streets, looking for shelter, and kept expecting someone in a car to try and run him over (maybe there was someone infected in a car chasing him, I can't remember). He was looking for lights on in windows, perhaps assuming that infected people wouldn't be shining lights because it'd make themselves targets, but uninfected people might try to gather that way. Anyway, he saw a light with someone moving in a window and took a risk of banging at the door and it was an old lady, who seemed nice but he wasn't sure if he could trust her because nobody else was home.
Then the dream sort of took a left turn and I was in the scene rather than watching the movie, except not in _that_ scene.. I was someone else on the streets, and I was running and trying to avoid being seen. In particular I was hoping over walls and really making jumps that were physically impossible, but was having a lot of fun.
That's all the dreams I could remember enough to describe, but there were a bunch of mini ones. There was briefly one lucid one but it didn't last long so I didn't really get to do much.
