Thoughts on the 7th ep of the season for Stargate Sg1 and Stargate Atlantis.

Spoilerish.

Stargate continued the Ori plot and introduced Morena Baccarin as the grown-up Adria. She did well on the whole, though looked a bit creepy like her neck was super long, probably due to the clothing.

I'm glad they finally got rid of the Dakara weapon, but destroying Dakara as a whole was more hardcore than I expected, but then, this is Stargate... things happen. Although I'm not terribly fond of Stupid Jaffa Leaders, they've had more than enough of them, everybody should just listen to Brea'tac.

Also was really nice to see Daniel talk about his past with his wife, although I was surprised they didn't also bring up the Harsesis Child. It's a natural point of agreement, even though it's not biologically Daniel's son, it's still an innocent child that was intended to be used as a tool of evil before it was rescued. Hell, considering Harsie's with the Ancients now, even though we haven't heard about him in a long time, it'd be a natural to stick him and Adria in a room together.

As to Atlantis, well, I'm a sucker for any ep that attempts to give the Wraith more depth than 'grrr, me likey the evil!', so it gets bonus points for that, even though I saw the ending coming from about halfway through.

I also have to give a little bit of complaint at the inconsistent sense of ethics of the Atlantis squad. Grab a Wraith, experiment on him to turn him human, then completely lie to him? AOK! Hell, lock up Michael after he helped you stop two wraith ships headed for Earth, and turn him into a human against his express wishes... hunky-dory! But if you make a deal with a random Wraith who may or may not know or be able to deduce that Atlantis still exists? Well, you'd better keep that deal, because otherwise you're dishonorable!

Still, it was nice to see Colier again.

Both were pretty solid episodes this time around, although I think I might give the edge to Atlantis this week.

Also, now that SG1 is announced as cancelled (although there's still hope for something), I'm just going to jot down my thoughts on how I'd like to see it end.

Ideally, if the actor was into it, I'd like to see Daniel move over to Atlantis. They'd made a running joke about him always wanting to move over to Atlantis and then something else more important (or accidental delays) sidetracking him. Once the Ori are defeated I'd like to see him officially move over to Atlantis. They don't really have someone with his role there, so if you could expand the cast a little, it'd be appreciated.

Sam and Jack I'd like to see go off into the sunset together, because, well, it just feels right. Married's ideal, but I'd at least like some acknowledgement that they're together now that regulations aren't in the way. Oh, and Cassie should be at their wedding. ;)

Cam, Vala, and Teal'c start a kickass PI firm on Earth. Well, perhaps not. I'd imagine Teal'c would probably end up in some high position in the Jaffa leadership, and Cam and Vala would probably just be shuffled off somewhere, perhaps still working at SG command but just not on the show.

Actually, I'd also like to see the Stargate program revealed to the world at some point, because it feels like they've been building to it for so long.

If the show can't continue and they can't wrap this up in the current season, then we at least need a miniseries or movie to get all this done.

They've also occasionally talked about doing yet another spinoff, so I've tried to think of something I'd like to see without it running over old ground.

The only thing right now, short of rebranding SG1 'Stargate Command' and continuing with as much of the main cast as possible (which is kinda cheap) that I can think of would be to do it as a spaceship show. Perhaps, with the Ori threat gone Earth sends out a fleet of ships to a completely uncharted galaxy on a 'see whats out there' mission. The new galaxy may or may not have its own Stargate Network, but either way, to preserve the Stargate name, the _ships_ have Stargates. By this time Earth have figured out a way to make a completely mobile Stargate work (perhaps special control crystals that always connect two specific gates no matter where they are), and have a ZPM to power it. So basically the ship/ships are constantly connected to home while they go exploring. and of course they encounter a new threat and all kinds of cool things in the new galaxy. If we can, have Cam and Vala on the new show (hell, and/or any or all of the rest, I'm only leaving them out on the basis of the idea that they may need to differentiate themselves in order to spur more interest and that hiring the stars who've been there since S1 might cost a lot more), or do a new cast. I'd also like to have an Asgard main character.

Don't know what kind of threat they face, but it can still be fairly down to Earth. Stargate's already done Body Snatchers (Goa'uld), Frankenstein Monster/Killer Robots (replicators), Vampires (Wraith), demons (Ori), so, aside from perhaps maybe Cthulhuesque monsters beyond space and time (which would rock but is hard to do right), the next logical step is an alien race based on ZOMBIES!
Or Werewolves. Or maybe ghosts. But I'm betting zombies are the best bet.
