Lost Traditions...

So, today is Easter. Now, not being very religious (or really, at all) myself, it's the holiday with the chocolate eggs, and usually a decent meal.
However, more importantly, today is also Greek Easter (they don't usually coincide, but this year they do). Now _that_ is the holiday in my book. However, this year, it seems, nothing is going on in that side of the family. Really, nothing going on in either side of the family so it's just a regular normal dinner here at home. Now, I don't mind losing the Normal Easter stuff, but I do miss Greek Easter.
Greek Easter, at least in my family, is usually celebrated by a trip to one of my aunt's houses (or occasionally my grandmother), where they roast a lamb over a spit. Mmmmm, roast lamb. There is all sorts of other foods there, homemade sausages, chicken and pork souvlaki, greek potatoes, salads, blocks of feta cheese just lying around for the eating. But not this year.
So, no big family get together, and no greek feast. This depressed me.
On a visit to my grandmother yesterday she did make sure we got a colored egg each (the tradition there is everyone gets an egg, and you have one person hit the pointy edge of your egg with the pointy edge of yours so one or both breaks, and then you flip the egg over and you hit the broad side of their egg with the broad side of your egg. If your egg is broken, you eat it. If not, you can continue. If you survive repeated contests, you're... I dunno, 'lucky', I guess). But just the eggs, no contest really.
And a couple weeks ago I had a little Easter Bread that was set aside from me (Easter Bread is a delicious sweet bread my grandmother makes. Good on its own or with butter), but just a small chunk.
So bleh, a somewhat blah Easter. No family get together, no greek feast, fancy colored eggs, and only a memory of easter bread. Ah well... I'll just have to imagine them all I guess.
