Okay, since 'Blog Like It's The End of the World' day is over (PS, I died saving the world. BECAUSE I CALLED DIBS), I can write a more standard post about yesterday.

Yesterday was comic day! This week I got 2 books.

Mystic Arcana: Magik #1
New Mutants #39

Didn't wind up getting Cable & Deadpool #41.

Full reviews up as usual at my comic reviews site for anyone interested.

Picked up "Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell" at the used bookstore. I wanted to grab it before my shadow did - even though my shadow already has a copy (this is a different one than I saw before, and slightly more expensive), he's strange and would probably snap this one up just to bug me.

Had a salami sandwich for lunch. Hot day, and work was kind of annoying. Especially because I was told, shortly after I started, that when I was done I'm supposed to call the boss on his cell phone. I asked why and was told only "he wants to talk to you". So, all through work there was a little knot in my gut forming, imagining the worst. But I did my work, and just before I was done he called the store to talk to me, where I found out simply that in the next few weeks there'd be a slight change to my work schedule. PHew. I knew that was coming and figured there was about a 50% chance that's what it was about, but even within the 50% chance there was the worry of 'and we've decided that with the change of schedule we're not going to need you anymore' or 'our times are changing to some abominably horrible time for you, can you make it?'. So, relief. Actually, although not all of it's clear (still don't know what time Wednesday is shifting to), it's looking like I'll still be working 3 days a week, although instead of sun, wed, fri, it'll be mon, wen, fri, and for at least sun and fri it'll be between 8 and 9 in the morning. Which is good for me - I like working early (but not _too_ early that I have to wake up super early to get there) because then when I'm done it feels like I have the whole day to myself. Plus I get my weekends back and could go out and party saturday nights, if I was ever inclined to do that which I never was so the point is rather moot.

Also, I never did post my thoughts on the most recent Doctor Who episode, "Blink". So, here we go, spoilers ahoy.

Definitely one of the better episodes of the series, though it's no surprise given Moffat's track record. I'd like to add my voice to the chorus who'd like to see Moffat take over showrunning duties once RTD leaves (and tie that to my continued hope that RTD leaves soon).

I wasn't too sure about it going in, but as it went on I really started to like it. The time paradox was fun. The plot itself I was worried was going to be dodgy, but they resolved most of my potential complaints by the end, and moreover, it was fun getting there - there were even a lot of fun little asides that had nothing directly to do with the plot.

The weeping angels were a little goofy conceptually (especially that whole 'feasting on the potential energy of the years they might have had', which is just dumb, but I'll mentally rationalize it as the doctor just trying to be poetic, and the actual reasoning is far more complex), but still kinda cool in the story. I'm almost tempted to try making a weeping angels icon.

Sally would make a fine companion, as others said, but I doubt it'll ever happen. Just like with Elton and Ursula last year, even though they could have been good companions, it's pretty clear they set her up having her 'happy ending' and never seeing the doctor again.

Couple minor problems. What happens when the light burns out? Won't the weeping angels stop looking at each other then, and be free? Also, I'm not pleased at the whole 'tardis disappearing around whoever's inside' phenomenon. Has that ever happened before? I'm not a WHO scholar. But I'd prefer that whoever's goes along for the journey. Else there's never any real risk if someone gets inside the Tardis. You could just have it ignore them when you fly away. Also, how the hell did the angels get the Tardis back to the house? I mean, you'd figure at least at some point they'd run into people wondering where the statue of angels carrying a giant police box came from, and then stare. But otherwise pretty good, still far fewer problems than most episodes.

Also went and read the short story the ep was based on, which was more about the time paradox bit without any of the weeping angels, but was still fun.
