A most unusual day...
Jul. 9th, 2007 05:10 pmThree unusual things happened today. First, while on the way to work, I got stopped by a cop. See, there's a part of my walk where it goes downhill relatively steeply, and it's my habit to run in that case (running downhill is one of the few times running is pleasurable, as opposed to a means to another end). I guess my running must have looked suspicious though because a police car came up beside me, and the woman inside asked if I was in a hurry to get somewhere. I explained no, I was just running downhill, and she asked where I was coming from and I explained I was coming from home and heading to work, and she seemed satisfied and left. Not terribly exciting, but unusual. Little did I know, though, that it was apparently a PORTENT OF DOOM.
Because the second unusual thing that happened is that I was unable to finish work. There came a point where I tried to lift something and my back reacted in a scream of pain (I did not scream, of course, as it would be unmanly), and it became hard to move. I stood around for maybe half an hour trying to work the pain out of my back before I told the boss I just couldn't finish and asked if he could get someone to do it for me, which was okay. I started home.
I started walking home, that is. I was only in pain so long as I moved in certain directions, and so I could walk, albeit slowly, and in sort of a shambling way, with the occasionaly groan. I suspect now that I looked rather zombieish. It's possible many have died needlessly, having been mistaken for the first sign of an oncoming zombie apocalypse, when in fact they merely had back pain. But anyway, it's normally a 45 minute walk. I wanted to stop at a grocery store on the way (about halfway) to pick up something that would be on sale but that I might not get a chance to get before the sale went off, but thought that I might get on the bus afterwards, even though I had no ticket.
Enter unusual thing number 3. Shortly after I decided on that, a woman crossed the street and asked me if I'd be willing to buy a bus ticket off her so she could go and buy some food. I did, giving her a little more than she asked for (but still a little less than a ticketless fare would cost).
Anyway, I'm home, resting and trying not to move much. I'm doing a little better... my range of motion is increased and the punishment for disobeying the whims is lessened. I can also change from standing to lying down in less than a few minutes, which is good. I'm hoping I'll be back to normal by Wednesday (it's not out of the question, this has happened once before and been back to normal in a day or two) because missing work again would suck. :P.
