Some random stuff...
Jul. 29th, 2007 09:55 amApparently Joss Whedon's long-talked about "Ripper" idea (featuring Giles from Buffy) for the BBC is very close to coming together, as a 90 minute movie. This and other projects and potential projects he's talked about here.
Also, looked at the trailer for Iron Man they played at comiccon and... actually I'm rather impressed. I've never really been an Iron Man fan, and actually kind of like him as the villain he is now in the comics. But it looks like the movie could be cool.
Edit: Oh, and bad news it seems for Farscape. This article gives a bit more info on those 'webisodes'. No info specifically on the cast, but the length is determined: Each will be between 3 and 6 minutes in length. Translation: Almost completely skippable to me unless most of the cast returns (in which case 10 webisodes might add up to the equivalent of 1 episode - nice, but only if it's actually a direct continuation).
And there was another round of the Writing Workshop I'm in over at the BKV cabal. This one was based on a one word prompt, "LOST". I didn't really put a lot of time into this one, so it's not really my best work, but just for the sake of tradition, it's posted behind the cut. The format was specified 5 pages script or 500 words prose, and since I don't really like working in short word counts in prose (unless it's _very_ short, like the 100 word stories), I went with a comic script format.
Page 1:
5 panels, in a 4 panel structure: The first 3 panels are normal,
and the last panel is split, either in half or possibly as an
inserted sub-panel.
Panel 1:
Close up shot of our hero's face. His codename doesn't matter,
since it won't be used in story, but for the sake of the script,
let's call him Apex. He should be generic muscleman type in build,
but let's try to avoid the 'nontrademarked superman copy' in costume
design. No cape, and maybe a costume looking more like a uniform.
His face should be coming out of one side of the panel, with the other
side being stars. He's bruised and semi-conscious. He's also
noticeably stubbly - he hasn't shaved in a while.
Panel 2:
Same general position and pose, but with a little more alertness. His
eyes aren't open due to bruising.
Narration Box: Ngggggggh.
Panel 3:
We see more clearly now, with his whole body in his shot, (and his
full costume revealed for the first time) that he's floating in a
void.
Narration Box: Ow. Never been hit hard enough to overcome my
invulnerability before. How long have I been out?
Panel 4:
Eyes finally open, Apex begins the process of turning around.
Narration Box: Great. Knocked into orbit again. About time I got
back in the fight.
Panel 5:
Close up on eyes, open wide, in shock.
Page 2:
Single panel. The planet Apex has turned back towards is actually
Jupiter, looming large, but relatively distant.
Narration box: He must have hit me farther than I thought.
Title Box: "...In Space"
Page 3:
Each panel on this page and the next, will be the same size, but
Apex's size within it will be decreasing, to help bring home the
magnitude of space. He should still be big enough to make out
facial expressions though, so this will be a gradual shrinking.
Panel 1:
Close up on Apex's face and upper body. He's regaining his composure and heroic
bearing.
Narration Box: Okay. Don't panic. I've got the premium package
of invulnerability. I'm good for at least a month before
I need food, water, or air.
Panel 2:
Apex is flying at very high speed, with Jupiter at his back.
Speed-lines should be in evidence.
Narration Box: I can get back to Earth in a few hours. My flight
enhancement's the best they offer. All I have to do is fly until
the sun looks the right size.
Panel 3:
Apex looks up to a sun that is about normal size if he was looking
at it on Earth. He, however, is still floating in space. The panel
shows his back, with the sun ahead of him, silhouetting him a little.
Text box: Several hours later...
Narration Box: That looks about right. Except for the lack of a big
blue planet.
Panel 4:
Apex flying again, perpendicular to the sun.
Narration Box: I guess I'll have to circle until I find it.
Page 4:
Again, each panel the same size, but Apex's size within decreasing.
By the end, He should still be big enough to make out facial
expressions though, even if diminished ones.
Panel 1:
A similar scene to the last panel, just a little further back. His
bruise has faded, and his beard's getting noticeable.
Narration box: Feels like I've been flying forever.
Panel 2:
Apex sits in space, hand on his chin in thought like Rodan's thinker.
He's got a sort of grim smile on his face.
Narration Box: Where's an alien armada bent on conquest of Earth
when you really need one?
Panel 3:
Apex's flying again, and use speed lines to show his direction's
changing. Where he was flying 'sideways', he now flies 'up'.
Narration Box: I'm getting nowhere. Hell, I don't even know if
I'm going in the right direction. So hard to tell with no up
and down. Maybe I should try another tack.
Panel 4:
Apex, now relatively tiny, has got the classic 'hand over his eyes
while trying to look for something' look, as he tries to see if he
can see Earth from here.
Narration Box: I knew I should have sprung for the ultra-vision option.
Page 5:
One panel. Again it's just Apex and the sun, and though he's bigger
than he was in the last panel, he's still small in comparison to
space and the stars, which take up most of the page, leaving him
lonely. Apex has an even fuller beard, now. He seems thinner
before - the time without food is starting to take its toll.
4 Narration Boxes:
1) It's looking a bit grim, but let's not give up hope.
2) You're a hero for God's sake, you keep searching until the end.
3) You're not going to let them build a memorial case that says: 'Arch-nemesis: Poor Sense of Direction'.
4) How hard can it be to find one planet?
End.
That's about all I want to talk about right now, I think. There's a 'works in progress' meme I saw that might be interesting, but since I have so many it'd put too much effort to put together now, so I'll do it another time maybe.
