an X-Box 360 owner.

Only played one game, a bit of Dead Rising. And I totally suck...

(but hopefully that'll change)

(Dead rising bought a few days ago, and console came with Forza Racing, Halo ODST, and, the store threw in as part of a sale, Fable II).

Whoo, welcome to the club! There's no secret handshake or anything, sadly.

How is Dead Rising? I've always wanted to play it. You can beat up zombies with other zombies!

So far I've used a zombie hand and thrust it into another zombie's head.

It's okay so far, though I'm not too far into it. It does capture the spirit of the classic zombie apocalypse games a bit better than Left 4 Dead did (lots of shamblers and you can choose whether to try to fight or skulk around trying to avoid them and hope you don't run into a cluster).

There's also a lot more plot - rescuing survivors, tracking down clues about it, etc. And it's, alas, not QUITE as condusive to "I just wanna slaughter some zombies for 20 minutes" play, at least not yet, since you have to start from saved games which are often away from the action.

Text is really hard to read on my screen though (it was designed for HD tvs), which makes some of that more complicated than it should be.

Controls are a bit iffy - lots of times I try to use something and I wind up picking it up instead, or dropping my gun, or something like that, and it really gets annoying. Part of that is that I'm new at it, but part of it's just poor design, I think (there's a lawnmower you can use to run down zombies, but after you activate it the first time if you lose touch with it, the next time it's anybody's guess whether you try to activate it again or you try to pick it up).

Right now it's pretty hard, I've been trying one of the early missions several times and keep dying.

But I'm liking it, anyway.

Oh, and last night 1 hour of Dead Rising + sleep a few hours later = awesome zombie apocalypse dream, so that alone is worth the price. ;)

Glad to see you're having fun :)

If you want to read text, a $40 VGA adapter will let you plug the Xbox into a computer monitor. Handy for ooh-ing and ahh-ing, although it's not exactly the comfort of the living room.

Halo games are not known for their storylines, so ODST's campaign is less than captivating; the second disc (multiplayer) is where all the action is.

I never got into the FF series at all before, and though I might have some curiosity over it because of how good it's always said to be, that curiosity doesn't extend to buying a game that's likely to cost $40 even used, much less new. :)

Meh, FFVI is probably the best one anyway. And you can just play a ROM.
