Nickelodeon greenlights Avatar: Legend of Korra TV series.
Some thoughts behind cut (so those who wish to completely avoid spoilers can do so).
Nickelodeon said in a release that “The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra.”
Korra’s quest eventually leads her to Republic City–the epicenter of the world of “Avatar.” A metropolis powered by steampunk-type technology, the city is inhabited by people from all nations. Korra finds that Republic City suffers from rampant crime and is also dealing with an anti-bender revolt. Korra is tutored by Aang’s son, Tenzin, is the ways of airbending
The good: Yar, Steampunk! ;) Plotlines generally sound good, and setting it in a city full of crime might give it a bit of a superhero vibe, which might or might not work, but I'm putting it in the 'good' category for now. Also, original creators involved.
The bad: Although I don't mind what's presented here, I really do wish we'd get a little more with the characters we came to know and love from the series, find out how Zuko's quest to find his mom went and what happened to all the other characters... which probably will happen, but not in a "oh, yeah, this is what happened... 50 years ago".
The Huh:
She's tutored in Airbending first? I thought the Avatar had to learn all of the skills in sequence, and in a way that Air would be last. Is Korra starting out already Earth and Firebending already? Or maybe they just decide to break with tradition? (Edit: Answered by the link below).

Date: 2010-07-21 11:42 pm (UTC)Agreed about the Steampunk and the mixed feelings of it being a super-heroy kind of thing, but it does say 'eventually' so hopefully there'll be a lot of other stops as well.
That's a good point about the order of training though. Maybe he'll just be her guide along the way and teach her air in the end. IDK.

Date: 2010-07-22 12:05 am (UTC)I suppose it does change things up a little, though, since they already covered 'I have to find a teacher for X, and now I have to find a teacher for Y...' a slow gathering of the talents in the first series, so there's not much need to really go over the same storyline.
